Funny that the motor temp topic came up.
I have ran two of the Ex-Tech mills for most of my season and have came to know what many have already said on here. 200 to 220 seems to be the best performance I can get out of them with the 220 being on the high side of that. Get over that temp and the motors do not like it one bit. I think the average temp I ran at was 190 to 210 for the most part and I though my tune was off with it running that cool. Stark contrast from the Rossi's I had been running, where 240 to 260 seemed to be ok with them. The OS Speed I ran before that seemed to like a running temp of 230 to 240. Can't complain one bit with the Ex-Tech's cooler running temp, just have to make sure that your pit guy know whats up on the temp or else they could accidentally tune you right out of a piston and sleeve. Thanks for all the info on the thread, can't wait for the '09 season.

Mine runs best 190-210 as well. Still insane top end with good smoke. It seems that the low end is really sensitive to temps over that.

Anybody shoot a crankcase temp right below the head? I bet it's a little warmer than shooting it at the glow plug. Need to try that next time I fire it up.

I ran my Extech .21 for the first time last weekend. I was very pleased with the power and performance. 0 flameouts and didn't have to touch a tuning screw all day, after the main 182 degrees

Coming from electric racing and still learning this nitro stuff it is very important to me to have motor that runs correctly without a bunch of jacking around. So far it looks like the extech will be as good if not better than my GRP in that department.

Strange thing happened, I had the motor tuned good for 50ish temps. As the temps dropped into the upper 40's it was slightly lean on top so I gave it an hour or two but the bottom got very rich. I first mistook it for a lean bog and went the wrong way. It took about 1/2 a turn to get the bottom back close, seems strange they both didn't need to be richened as the temps dropped.

mixedguy - 2056 pipe, and i tune my engine by the bottom end. you get better gas mileage that way

Frank - the fully modded engines are being modified by our manufacture. Tolerances will tighter, and the modifying process will have a cleaner and more professional finish. I am breaking in every engine and going through the carbs.

BAUSTIN - polish any burrs off of the carb that may cause a problem and set the needles. yes to the stock engines as well.

cjm1126 - neither, our modded engine has around 5-6,000 more rpm than the stock

Man. I finally got to run mine w/ 053 pipe at RCP TX champs this weekend and I'm so impressed. KYJoe I see what you mean. During practice Sat mornin it was like 48 deg. I ran 6 or 7 laps, car was fast, making tons of power. First time I'd fired it up all weekend and I brought it in to check temps. They temped it with an Exergen and it read 145. I couldn't believe it. I had some other issues and didn't get on the track in buggy till the last qual Sat. I ran about 7:10, plus about a 3/4 lap "hot" lap and still had a little under 1/3 tank when I came off, engine was like 175 and just stupid fast. I didn't get passed on the straight all weekend, it would just yank out of the corner and be gone. Loved it.

Chad, what do you use to debur the carb barrel? I had a linkage issue this weekend, pretty sure there's a burr or 2 on the carb now. JB was talking about a Scotchbrite pad? I forgot to look at the one he uses. Shoulda just boosted it from his pit box.
