I own 2 DX3R's and love them, I have owned several other Spektrum radios and the DX3R with 3100 receivers are great, would not trade them for any other.

I just got mine, and from reading the manual, it says if you have a metal flywheel (most do) then put the non-reflective sticker on the backside facing the engine and mount the sensor with the included aluminum mounts onto the side of engine mount and put sensor about 1/8 inch from the flywheel. There are really good pics of mounting options in the manual. You might have to use just one screw on sensor board to move the sensor around so its close to the non-reflective dot.

Somebody at my track said this was a repackaged version of the DX3.0 put into the body shell of the DX3R. Is this correct or is there significant improvement in the radio features?
Thanks for any further information

The DX3S is nothing like the DX3.0; its not even close. The User Interface is totally different from one radio to another, the DX3S if faster, has more memory, and is by all means a more feature rich radio.

Do you know how the DX3S is faster? I thought that both the DX3S and the DX3.0 were both only DSM (not DSM2) which would make them the same in terms of latency anyway. Just curious.

Think of the speed difference between the 3.0 and the DX3S similar to the difference in speed between the original modules and the Pro-Series Equipment. I know when I interviewed John Adams he also stated that the DX3S is faster. Latency is also only one piece of the puzzle when it comes to the overall speed and responsiveness of a radio. See the video below.

Default GET THE S!

I recieved mine yesterday, I LOVE IT. I have been using a Traxxas system since I started and this is sooooooooo much better. the telemitry is amazing. Very easy to setup and use. If I seriously had to rate this on a scale of 1-10 I would seriously give it a 10. I can't find one thing I don't like about this radio. This is the best bang for your buck and who seriously has 20 cars to race every raceday. If you do I can also see that you can afford 19 other $100 receivers! ok $1900 on recievers alone. YOU WILL LOVE THE S.
If you have a local hobby shop get it from them even if you are paying $20 bucks more. I'd rather support my LHS. Plus think about how much they help you out for free when something breaks and you don't know what. Support your LHS!

Questions??

Ok first problem with the radio.
Yesterday the RX quite working during a race. The only telemerty was the motor temp.
First thing I tried was to rebind and still nothing.
Put in a new RX and everything is ok again.
Took the old RX by itself and tried the rebind again and the rebind light does not come on at all
This Rx had approx 25-30 5 & 8 races on it.
I will be sending it back to see what went wrong.

Other than this problem, this radio is great. VERY easy to make changes and to set up.

Default DX3S

I got mine yesterday.

Comes with 2 temp sensors, one for elec and one for nitro

Also comes with a Rpm/Mph sensor and the extra reciever.

You adjust a number "Roll out" on the transmitter and it can display actual Mph/Kph or just rpm.

I really like the less weight and feel so far, come with 3 diff size grips too.

I have ONE problem, rpm sensor works fine but for some reason the MAX Recorder dont display the max..... im reading and that info is held in the reciever it seems as they tell you to turn off and back on to reset it.

Anyone had the problem?

the Spektrum transmitter case pictured above is waaaay light-duty, you can flick it and dent it(I owned one).......IMO I think if you like this line of dx3R/dx3S radios..go with the R...if you hold one after you hold your S and compare integrity/quality, you will wish you got the R....they are nowhere near the same......I was so unpleased with my 3S in comparison to my buddies 3R.....I ordered new Futaba 3pk HRS synth setup/Futaba case which is worthy of standing on drivers stand.......JMO.......good luck with your new radio

Thanks.
