DX3S....anything else comparable?
I'm thinking of getting a DX3S on backorder as I am getting back into electric racing. Is there anything else I should look at that might be comparable? I am highly interested in the radios that only require 4 aa's as well.

Anything, or is this the radio to have...?

In my opinion this is not the radio to have. Yes it has the telmetry but i was disopionted to find out that spektrum did not give it all the features that they gave the dx3r. Thing include that they gave the dx3s a smaller screen then the dx3r and they gave the dx3s less model memory. I believe that took other stuff away but i am not sure maybe someone else on hear can help me out.
In my opinion your better off getting a Dx3r since you said that you want one that only has 4 batteries. I think that that radio is more of a race radio. just my .02 cents |

+1 for the DX3R I have one. went from an M11 which is a great radio also.
I like my dx3r better. You will have to look at the differences in the r vs the s. I don't use telemetry. neither do 99% of the racers out there. I'm not sure what the diff. are? I would think the 3r or 3s you will be happy. just depends on if you can wait. |
DX3S is right hand only. 10 models only versus 30 for DX3R. The biggest deal is it uses the older DSM1 version not DSM2 like the DX3R. According to my hobby shop you should be able to get the DX3S,one telemetry module, and one regular module for the less than the DX3R with one receiver module.

idbdoug With the DX3R, you get one SR3100 DSM2, and is compatible with any Spektrum receiver, however you wont have the advantages of DSM2 unless you use the SR3100 receiver. But, there's a lotta guys here that use the DX3R with both SR3100's and SR3500's (the micro RX) in their different cars. A-Main has them for $319. Bottom line, if you race or not, both of these radios are awesome. If you want telemetry to keep track of the goings-on in your car, the DX3S is a no-brainer. If not, it's hard to find a better, lighter, more user-friendly pro-level radio than the DX3R. |
I'm thinking of pre-ordering the DX3S from Amain, using one of the 25$ off coupons on my next order.....I can see myself running 2 classes eventually, and the extra Rx will come in handy for that. 99$ for a 2nd DX3R Rx is just to rich for my blood if I had to drop 300$ for the radio alone......

In my honest 2cents worth opinion, forget speky and buy a Nomadio React. its everything the 3r/s is and more. besides being 4 chnls. it has 40 models, multi mixing, abiltity to use digi/analog servos together, light and comfy to hold use, telemtry is built in and works Great with only the need to buy the sensors you want at 25.00 per unit, they offer a Temp sensor RPM/Tach Sensor, and a volt sensor when using an esc, plus the plug into the regular rx, just need to buy the acutal sensors and plug them in.
its only 260.00 for the tx/rx. additional rxs are less (85.00) than the spektrum units. i ve been 200 plus YRD away without any noticable delay in transmission. IF you want a Killer radio without spending 450 on a 3/4PK or a Nomadio Sensor, the React is a Killer radio that has everything you could want and more as a RACER, let alone a basher. plus you can plug it into your CP and use it playing DIRT< or Need for Speed or such computer games to boot. and make the game its own model and setup and save it so you never have to reprogram for the game. just move to that model and go... my React has been one of THE BEST RC upgrades i ever got. |

Not familiar with the Nomadio because I don't know anyone that owns one.
+1 on the DX3R. I really like mine except the ergonomics of the grip & ugly steering wheel. I'm comparing this to my Futaba 3PKS which is now my backup radio. |
DX3R is pushing my budget a bit, and only has the 1 Rx. 250$ with 2 Rx's so I have an extra one, and a few bells and whistles make this a nice deal to me.
If they upgraded the DX2.0 to only run on 4 cells and a few more features, I'd prob be looking at that as well..... I know it's not DSM2, but it is compatible with every other spectrum Rx they make, which are easy and cheap to get..... |
WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just picked up my new DX3S and extra telemetry RX from my local Hobbytown store. It's going in my TC5 LiPo 21.5 T/A car tomorrow for this Sunday's racing. I will be running the temp sensor to the BL motor. Will post after the race. Oh yea, this is replacing a 1988 vintage KO EX1 radio that is still working very good!! Bob Oaks |
I just received mine, it seems very good.
