The only limit becomes your ESC/motor and how much braking power they can provide.

That is your answer, they cant take it on high grip surface to brake full force, but on dirt they can take it, because of sliding.

Yeah, that's true. Though it's not very useful to have brake force set so high that it will lock your wheels on dirt.

What's a CB system?

Raced the E8 for the first time today with 90+ degree weather
No problem making the 7 min heats, no cogging, no shutdown
Motor temp 140, ESC temp 109 after the heat using 16t pinion and 5000 4s Lipo
Lots of torque but not as much as the 1/10 4wd
Runs like a 4wd buggy on steriods, can keep up with Vspec OS even faster on the straights, just have to learn how to drive it and set up the car
a buddy painted it like a jet fighter cockpit (so I can see if things are burning inside)

Sorry, I meant to say similar to the Tekno CB(clutch bell) system, They have a patent on the elektric clutch but as we see with other products, there are ways around that...

Great looking buggy...

What's a CB system?
Yet again true.

So how's the speed control on the losi?

Easy to program?

The 8E has the same suspension setup as the 8IGHT Race Roller. Diff oils are F/C/R 5000/5000/2000.

The are a few reasons we did not consider the clutch, it was to eliminate the added cost of clutch bearings, shoes, and springs. Plus the fact you have perfect control of the electric power with no clutch. If we added a clutch we would have lost the beauty of torque with the electric motor.

also if you have a clutch then you need mechanical brakes, plus the servo to operate them

Makes sense. I guess it is personal preference. Im guessing the nitro guys who switch would likely go with the Tekno kit.

Mr Hodge
What set up should be used for the e8
I tried the race roller set up but feels soft and lands hard on big jumps

I am very happy with the e8
I have wanted to convert my nitro since last year but I waited for Losi to do the research and looks like I made a good decision

Other racers were test and tuning while I was just charging and plugging in
Some info I learned
The plugs for the battery are huge to charge I had toput the female plugs on with the banana plugs to fit the Losi plugs
Check tires one came unglued
Unfortunately I did not check how much amps I used will do next race
Thanks

Dear Mr. Hodge,

let me post some experiences . I think I am the first person in germany who owns an 8ight-e which I received this week from amainhobbies.

First of all I have to admit, that the overall hardware quality is very good (only a screw was worn out and the wheels are glued so bad that I lost 3 on the racetrack!) but the brushless components are not what I expected from your company.
Sadly the ESC stopped working BEFORE the first run outside...
I connected a 5s lipo and drove some seconds in the house - suddenly the car went to full throttle , hit my leg and awful smoke came out of the ESC ...

This weekend I used a MGM 22418 on a 4s 30C Lipo instead of the original ESC and switched to a 11 tooth pinion (Novak - this was the only available pinion for me at the moment).
I donīt know why the car is shipped with a 16 tooth pinion but the manual at : http://www.losi.com/ProdInfo/Files/1...otorManual.pdf recommends max. 13 tooth at 4s !

On friday I called the losi service center and was told to send the ESC back - they also told me that it is not possible to send me a working ESC in advance / on the same time I send out the defective one. (I am very disappointed)

A last question:
Did I spend 879 for an outdated 8ight-e V1 and will the 8ight-e V2 be available soon ?

Here are some pictures :

I was thinking this too after years of nitro buggy racing. I made an RC8 conversion & you really do not need the clutch or the mechanical breaks. The cars work just fine without them.

Saw a e8 at the track today. Guy said everything is holding up good. Ran entire 4s pack through and motor & esc weren't hot to the touch. 75 min to charge 4s at 5 amps. He was making the table top tripple where 99% of nitro's were not,, very impressive.......... baseball type dirt track so it was very loose alot of tire spin
