Granpa .. we run zero on the front and 1.5 or 2 toe in in the rear. Toe out in the front is only needed to make the lousy 60D tyres turn. Not required with Spice as they have heaps of steering.

The twitchyness comes from the short track and the sensitivity around zero. That is why you make it slightly less responsive around neutral

The new Yeah 4000 are out, will those fit? Should give increased run time, i.e. fun!

With the RP36's I run toe out...on our track I can't get enough steering running 0 toe. Can't imagine the Spice tires would be any different on our track.

Will not fit. They are a rectangular shaped battery

I agree that the first thing I would check would be the ride height. Then ensure that your radio's responsiveness is turned down. Sudden changes of direction on a Mini will make it roll over. I have mine at -45 on a Helios EX 10. This suits my driving style.

When you change tyres on a Mini you need to check your ride height. The chassis on my Mini is worn due to the low ride heights I run, however the only time my Mini rolls is when I clip a dome or I get punted.

For tuning on my Mini I use tyres and inserts first and then change springs if required. Thats all I change. On a large open track I may change the rear hub to zero degrees, but that is not often. This does not matter which track I go too. i have found that in most cases you need to run the front tyres harder than the rear. I generally do this by using mini fitted inserts in place of the supplied foam inserts.

Granpa and rccardr both seem to agree "that what inserts and tyres you use will have a huge influence on the handling of a Mini". However asking the local's,(provided they are willing to tell you), is the best way to find out or by trial and error.

A lot of the problem with Mini's is that people tend to try to drive them like a 4WD Tourer. This does not normally work. You need to be smooth on the throttle and steering to be fast with a Mini. You should get a basic setup and then learn to drive the car. ( Lesson No1 from TFG)

I have my setup that I use on the previous page,(everyone has their own unique setup), but the biggest change I made was to change the settings on my radio, which assisted me with becoming smoother.

You may be right, but most of us around here run toe out to get the car to track down the straights. It really has very little to do with turn in. This holds true for every tire I've tried and that includes Rides, ABC, HPI, and Tamiya. I do agree with you about the Tamiya tire tho. I only run a tamiya tire when forced to for the TCS events.

I believe most of the twitchiness comes from the inherent slop in the steering linkages and the suspension. Before you say AHA, let me tell you that all the stock connecters have been replaced with balls and ball cups, so there is little slop there. There are a couple of "tricks" to eliminate some of the slop in the suspension, but you will still have some. What the slop does is it allows both front wheels to turn in the same direction and when a steering input is made to correct, both front wheels will turn in the other direction. In the worst case scenario, you can induce PIO, pilot induced oscillation, and spin out. Also running the stock zero degree rear hubs only makes a bad situation worse. By running toe out, you alleviate this problem. I set my toe out by cranking in toe out till the car runs straight and then leave it there.

Really, I'm not trying to argue with you, just sharing some thoughts. I personally feel that zero zero does not work especially in a mini or for that matter in any vehicle for the reasons stated.

That's odd...I've always read toe in gives you more stability and toe out tends to make the car wander on straights.

I run 0 toe on the front and the stock hubs on the back.

No one runs zero zero. The kits come with 2 degree in the rear. (M03M & M03L ... the old M03L had zero rear hubs) This provides the stability. Toe out on the front will provide initial turn in. Ask any TC racer. Just trying to help

Ok guys there has been a lot of posting on my question i was running medium temp tires front with stock inserts and soft temp rear with stock inserts rear, those is the new ratings.

Well my 60ds came stock with the kit so can tell you were they were made

2 deg rear hubs and i am actually one of the first ones to run minis at my local track ie i started it up again

ride hieght any lower and it scraps to much

And if tony could maybe send me a pm what he is running as i will be running against him on sunday

You say medium tyres on the front. You said Spice? The current spice tyres come in ratings .. 24 28 32 36 40. If you go too soft you will grip too much and cause flips. What were the front tyres?

No the new spice tires come in hard, medium and soft.

They are Ride tyres ... not Spice.

I would be using Ride Hard on the front and the soft on the rear.
