i'm looking for a crankshaft for my rb 3 port(econo 01003-e) i dont think they make this motor anymore but instead they came out with a newer version the s3. does anyone know if the crankshafts are compatible/interchangable?

I've read the post here and noticed some of you guys mention running temps of 270+ degrees
On the R&B products forum the guys there suggested not letting it run over 250.
So my question is what is the running temp range that is good for the motor? I can't seem to get an answer for this question no matter where I ask it. All are different. I wish it was right in the manual that came with my Matrix RW...Recommended running temp..blah-blah...give me something please.

You can't get an exact answer because there is no exact answer. Tune by sight and sound, not temp. I've had motors run perfectly at 195 all day long. The next day the same motor, same track, same performance, etc. ran 270.
To me, as long as it's running right and doesn't go over 290, I'm happy. I am NOT saying 290 is the right temp. It may run best at 220. It all depends on the day, the motor, the pipe, the fuel, the track and every other variable you can think of.

The main thing I've learned from the best tuners is to get the right amount of smoke coming from the exhaust and to check the head button after each run. The optimum engine temp really can vary too much to set a *target* temp on the gun.

Keep checking your pipe seals as well to make sure there are no leaks, as this can often get you chasing a tune.

Thanks guys. what throws me off with tuning the motors is it may be up around 260+ but still be smoking all the way down the straight. I have two C6BB's for my XT8 and I have the same type of situation. Not to mention the other night running my Matrix at 215+ and I put my hand in the exhaust and could still see fuel in there, but it was full of power when I needed it. On a 230ft straight I still had more pulling power when I had to let off to make the turn at this rich setting. I guess it's just how it runs.

However, the optimum temp for another *like* day still may vary +/-20d.

This past weekend, my comment above was proven to myself yet again...
Previously, I had never run my current R3 over 285F. However, during qualifying the motor was just plain dog slow and blowing too much smoke at what I thought was a good temp of 270F. Even with less power, I was able to put in a clean run and ended up 4th in the A main.
So in practice before the mains, I had my buddy tune it WITHOUT the temp gun for sound (performance) and smoke (reliability). He ended up leaning the top 9 hours (3/4 turn) and the bottom a half hour.

The motor ended up being one of the fastest on the track during the 30 minute main. After a first lap mishap that put me in last, it helped me to come through the field and finish 2nd behind my buddy who tuned it.
The engine temp at the end of the main was 305F and it was purring like a kitten.
The head button and top of the piston were completely BLACK and wet. The glow plug looked like new and after cooling down, the motor fired right back up immediately.
As I said before, just tune it for power AND smoke each and every day.
Thanks to RB, Murnan and Jamie C for the awesome power and support!!!
BTW, here are the specifics of the engine config and environment:
Motor: Murnan Modified RB R3
--- .45 head shims
Pipe: RB 2604
--- short header
Fuel: Maxy 25%
Plug: Novarossi C7TGF gold plug (I normally use RB plugs but didn't have anymore)
Weather: 88F, 51% humidity, 29.76 pressure

teamgp,
that sounds good, but for a newbie like me, it makes it impossible to tune. I might just drop my temp gun completely. Yesterday after a 10 minute main, my Matrix (which was still running) temped under or around 200F. When I lean it in a bit, it seems to whine more but smoke is still there. I checked the plug to see if it showed signs of being too rich and it looks new. Needless to say, I'm pulling my hair out (more nose than head
). we had a 250ft straight, no way it was 200F, I pull the throttle all the way.
Ended up winning 1st in B-main (got there because of rocks in drive train), then got the bump to the A-main but lost my 2nd place position to more rocks in drive train. Told my wife about it she said "i thought you took your onroad car, I didn't know you went offroading"....
