The GTB is probably a good esc but personally i wouldnt take the risk. Look around you rarely ever see people have problems with a sphere (and usually its because theyve abused the esc) and in sydney there are loads more Spheres than GTBs being used.
Hey Mango, I know you guys in onroad push these things pretty hard which is a good guage for reliability, however in offroad I have seen more Sphere's smoke than GTB's, mainly the first lot, not the 2007 onwards.

As far as features, The LRP has it all over the Novak with far better throttle profiles etc.

Chin does your budget reach either of these speedies?

My budget I would say will be around the $200 range.

Actually some guy offered his used GTB for around $200.
I am not sure as to how old is it and how often it's being used.

What is your take on a 2nd hand speedie?

I use second hand speedies all the time, the way i see it, either way there is always a chance a speedie is gunna fail

I have second hand
2 x QC2s
1 x GTX
1 x Sphere Competition 2007

I think ive heard of a couple of sphere's going up in smoke but both times i believe the user plugged them in back to front (although the sphere is meant to have reverse polarity protection so it shouldnt have failed in the first place ).

I have seen GTBs go up in non mod cars. The mod touring cars definitely pushes electronics to the limit, however with the rating of the GTB it shouldnt be pushed by a motor of 10.5/19T or less.

But to me there are a lot more spheres around than GTBs so if reliablity were an issue you would see a lot more failing.

Anyway thats my opinion from what i have seen around **SHRUG**

mangoman, you are right and my GTB is the latest casualty. these high tech stuff are not for me.

was doing the right for donkey years and suddenly colorful lights started to flicker and out came the smoke that tells you your GTB is fried.

chin, stick to some old fashion novak, lrp escs. you should be able to get a no limit brush esc under $100.00.

Second hand is ok for sure, particularly if you know who you bought it from looks after their gear and what class of racing it's done.

$200 will get you a decent new speedie or you'll have change from a top of the line 2nd handie.

2nd hand I agree Novak and LRP would be the pics for me.

I'm not sure how much will the shipping be to my location... But hey, I might be interested though... lol...

Well, I'm not too concerned over custom officers stripping the package. I've had some electronical gadgets sent to me as gifts by post a few months ago. The packaged was labelled as "Souvenirs" or "Ornaments".

The packages were received in one piece...

I sure would like to meet you all if I do get a chance to go to Australia...

Anyway, I'm laying my eyes on his Tekin FX Pro...

From the pictures found on tekin's website [http://www.teamtekin.com/fx.html], it looks like I'll have to do alot of soldering myself... Don't know if I can get them right as I'm quite new to the hobby and the wires of the ESCs that I've purchased before were already there..

The only speedie that required some soldering was the LRP A.I. Runner.
I needed to solder the wires from the speedie to the motor.

It seems that the FX Pro requires me to solder everything on by myself.. *shudder*
