Recommendations for ESC please...

Hi All,

I am contemplating on choosing between 2 brands of ESCs, but I would like to hear your comments on recommendations as I have not had any first-hand experience on either one. I will be needing the ESC for my 1/10 EP Tourer.

The brands of ESCs in question are:

1. M.troniks
2. MOPED

The models I'm looking towards specifically are:-

1. M.troniks Viper RV Max

or

2. MOPED V16R (Plus)
or
MOPED V16R (Pro)

Your comments/experiences is much appreciated... =)
Thanks in advanced!!!

None of the above. Stick to brands with proven track records e.g. Novak LRP Tekin Speed Passion Quark. You'll pay more up front but they'll last much longer

I agree with Craig. I have had many speedies over the years and the only one I have ever let the smoke out of was an Mtroniks. I have no experience with the MOPED but I have heard of others having issues. You may wnat to search these forums to see if you can find the relevant posts.

A good speedie is an investment that will stay with you longer than your chassis. With the moves towards brushless it would be worthwhile looking at the LRP TC, the Novak GTB or Speedpassion GT as these can run brushed as well as brushless. Keep an eye on the for sale section as you can pick these up second hand from time to time.

If cost is really an issue, try the Futaba MC330. I have run one of these with 540 and 27t for three years without a problem.

I use a LRP TC. Fantastic speedy and from what I hear, not to many problems with them

ABOUT TO ORDER AN LRP IPC V8.1 GENERATION+ ESC

Hi there,
I am also a newbie at RC and looking for a good ESC to go with the second hand TRF415MSX chassis that I just bought. Anyone got any comments on the LRP IPC V8.1 GENERATION+ ESC. I am about to order it from www.rcmart.com >>> very cheap compared to hobby shops. I was kind of looking for one that was light, easy to configure and did at least 8-10 turn and above. Would be glad for any suggestions or comments.

Thanks!

I do agree that the mainstream brands like LRP, Ko Propo, etc. are reliable and it'll definitely be the brands that a seasoned driver will swear by...

Considering that I do have constrains financially, I will only be able to afford to around $100 for my speedie...

Ive used both the mtroniks and moped and i would say go with the mtroniks
The 3 mopeds i had let out the smoke a month later
i have used an mtroniks Viper Dash for about a year without problems used a few months in my 12 scale with 9-10 turn motors and now being used in my stock touring car
I have also been using the mtroniks Viper Tempo11 in my minis with no probs

Coming ot think of it, what are you views about getting a 2nd hand ESC?

I know of a guy selling his used Novak SS5800 super sport brushless system.

Will there be any difference in terms of performance in the ESC as compared to a new one?

mangoman 04-26-2008 11:35 PM

If you were buying a brushed esc on a budget i personally would look for a second hand LRP QC2 with the worlds kit (the worlds kit has capacitors which give the speedy more punch) or a Novak GTX.

chin 05-01-2008 01:19 AM

The seller is kind enough to allow me to try the system out before purchasing...

Is there anything that I should look out for to determine if it is a good buy or not?
