Default M8 - steering spring breaks???

I was on the second lap of my qualifier today and the spring on the wheel broke(?) - I heard it pop and then the wheel had no tension and movement of the wheel didn't match what the wheels on the car were doing.

Anyone heard of this? Any way to fix it?

Thanks for any info.

Nick

My M8 did that a year or two ago. I disassembled it, bent a new loop in the spring and its been good since. Kinda hard to drive when it breaks.
Don't forget to remove the broken peice from the case, so it doesnt short anything out.

Mine has done the same, and I did the same fix, bent a new loop in to the spring.

Then it broke again and after that last fix it started creaking near the end of the race, which made it annoying to use. I called up Airtronics and had them me a new spring plus a steering wheel (since my existing wheel was beat up). Shipping I think cost more than the parts, but then I didn't have to ship in my radio either.

Go ahead and get a few springs as spares they are cheap. the hardest thing to do is getting the center of the steering wheel off without making it look bad. I changed the throttle spring while I had it apart.

I actually took it apart and bent a new loop on the spring last night. It took a little while to figure out how to get to it, but put it back together, the wheel worked and no left over parts - the radio is only 15 years old so I can understand if some of the parts are tired.

Thanks for the info everyone.
