Hi all. I have been using the VP oil for ages.. its the best... i use the RC Castor and the VP NITRO GLIDE. As a blend its clean potent oil..It was developed in the USA for the drag guys...they needed an extra special oil for their nitro, alloy motors. (sound familiar).
You can gian power if you play with the oil content bit, if you run say, 8% as to 10% you WILL get more ware... a better power gain..but it runs hotter, so tunning is critical...I advise the new guys to run 12% oil..so to compensate for tunning errors.. I like to run 8%..50ml. castor and 30ml nitro glide to 1 litre of 15% nitro...I add an extra head shim if its a bit warm.....
Guys, buy the american methanol and the american nitro...DONT use the Chineese quality..it has floaties and crap in it.......its rubbish...
One question I have..
Will you be selling the oils seperate so that people can mix their own?
will it be blended or singlular?
Are you selling the fuel that VP make them selves for the R/C market and re labeling it? or is ALL your own?
What are the pecentages of oil?
Im asking this as a lot of people say that they have the 'best fuel'...and i havnt found any to be any better than what I and heaps of others have been using for ages...
Guys, mix your own...you get FRESH, clean fuel..
Most tunning problems come fron so called "shop fuel"....
no pun or any negative attitudes are meant to come from my post...just my OWN personl thoughts..
Take them how you feel....
Ive been racing nitro cars at the top level..(still cant win though!) for the last 13 years..and i have destroyed a lot of engines to know what I know....

Hey Mike Catts
you are very welcome to post any questions you want ! I realise im reletively new on the scene and people need to get confidense before acceptance.. I have nothing to hide so im happy to tell all.. Except my fuel and mod secrets of course ! lol
So to answer your question, Yes the VP range of oils and nitro are good ! Mind you everything VP have is not made by Vp its selected and distributed by them ,, There are some major refinerys in Texas that make the raw product that VP rebadge and sell.. Having said that VP only take the best stuff avalable and you can rely on it IF it has their name on the can ..
Having said that to correct you re Chinese nitro , this is a common misconception as a lot of people believe chinese nitro to be bad.. Its actually some of the best nitro you can get.. In fact VP buy 70% of their nitro from china and add a dye that tells you if its gone bad.. Its a honey yellowish colour and goes purple when it goes off.. Awesome innovation From VP .. Now The US Makes about 15% of the worlds Nitro and the major part is used for the military.. the rest is used for people like Vp etc..
Now i make the fuel myself from fresh ingredients, i dont cut corners or replace nitro with acetone.. Its made to very strict guide lines and only i know the recipies so i HAVE to make it myself.. beside i think its fun makinf fuel.. I particularly enjoy testing different mixes and new products..
My next blend comes out in june and its going to absolutely make your engine sing! Its also designed to give longevity to your engine.. So to have 5 race meets out of one engine wont be un common as opposed to 2 or 3 ..
one of the oils i will be replacing with another brand .. other than VP .. I also use Klotz for certain applications..
So do you make your own ? or do yo uhave a friend do it for you ?
I hope this helps.. keep the dialog going too
Cheers

Hi again MM.
Yes I do make my own..then i know whats in it..
You say the chineese nitro is ok...I still think the US nitro is better..i havnt even tried using the chineese nitro as i have had bad reults with it in the past and i havnt used it since,,
I remmember years ago, that when I mixed the fuel..the oils went in first.. then the nitro. the mix went blue, then when u added the methanol, it went darkish brown. ley it sit for a minumin of 24 hours and it went to a lite brown...The fuel doesnt do this no more..why is this?
was there a dye in the older vp range?
You say "5 race meetings" for a motor...thats not very good!.
I have motors that are AS NEW and are 5 years old, they get run every second weekend and they still go hard.. I change the rod evry 6-7 hours of running..the original piston and liner. These are the JP range...so they go hard any way...
I personally wouldnt be happy about your stated longevity of the motors.
I have been doing my own motor mods for years..I started on 1/8 scale motors..and now that 1/12 are open ( to a degree) I can get my motors to scream......I was a good friend to RODY at the nitro worlds I attended one year..
It was amazing to watch...he had 1/2 a dozen motors at once, hed have his dremmel, do a bit, give it to his drivers, theyd run it, hed strip it, re do-it and theyd run it till they were happy...hes a real geniuose when it comes to modifying motors. and i did learn ALL the little things...which I feel are the most important....
Do you balance your cranks?
I use a lazer guided turbo balancer,,this unit costs $60000 its a briiliant tool.
,My best mate builds turbos, and i have the benifit of his knowlidge and exsperiance..im still trying to get a small enough turbo so as to turbo charge a nitro motor..should be interesting.
I balance EVERYTHING that i can...it makes a huge difference to performance, ware and tear.
regards
mike

Hey Mike
I hear you about the engine longevity, most racers in the pointy end of raicing will use an engine for 2 meets then sell it, and get a new one.. This is just the way a lot of them run.. I guess to have peak performance they feel comfortable changing their motors often.. Mind you some of these guys run as little as 6% oil and after 2 meets the engine is like 6 meets old, So the fuel im designing is to extend the life of an engine running under high stress with low oil contents.... And the VP nitro you are buying 90% chance its from China anyway.. the chinese make awesome nitro , they also make average nitro, VP buy the awesome stuff ! which is what you get.. the good stuff smells like Sweet Vinegar , The Cheaper stuff, mind you still useable, Smells Like Chlorine..
As far as balancing , its impossible to balance a single piston engine but yes we do balance the crank if its been carved..
So your friend lets you use his Laser Balancer.. Do you take into accound the cetrifugal components of the engine ? Do you just do the crank or the piston and rod too ? Sounds like a cool toy
So when you say Rody you mean Rody Roem of RB right ? How did you Manage that ? you were in the pitts with Rody ! nice won.. The closest i ever got to something like that is meeting the Rossi family at the Novarossi factory last year.. martonelli Giovanni took me to a few races and gave me the tour.. It was awesome, met some of their techs but they had their hands all over the secret stuff.. had a look at what their doing.. was pretty close to what i do.. tried comparing it to what i do in practical terms and came up with pretty much the same results.. But i learned one thing i took away with me.. and wow ! who would have thought it... So simple !
So what is in your opinion the best way to get a motor to haul with one cut ?
Do you measure the port timings for alteration ? What do you use to measure ?
Whats your opinion of flash point in oils? do you have a preferred flash point in the oils you use ?
Have you altered Boost port timings ?
Sorry for all the questions im always excited when i meet another modder !
Cheers MM

I could be tempted to go as low as $450 alone or $500 with the PMB setup kit.
I think I could include some spare shocks for that price too.
If you saw it at PDNR last season you would know it moves....and has the trophy to prove it!!!!

Sure can ! But id be inclined to mod it while its still newish as opposed to after it needs a rebuild.. I mean you would really just buy a whole new motor , rebuild would probably cost more than a new engine..
But yeah... think of us as a Mechanic for little cars..
