The best 3D printed one i have found is from Alera3D. Weighs about 6g.

EMA3d are the best bumpers, way more durable than Alera. If you can't find a Tamiya specific one, message Bryon Ehlert or send him your bumper and he'll measure and make them. Plenty of options for overhang length and weight.

Default TRF 421 durability

First post here. (re)started this hobby after 30 years of hiatus just two months ago. Joined some local races with TT02s.

Wondering if the TRF421 is durable enough for Rookie abuse (crashes relatively often) for 21.5T blinky setup.

As a “repay” to a bygone not-so-wealthy childhood I have “collected” quite a lot of pro chassis still new in boxes.

Has been wondering which chassis I should assemble outside of TT02s (I have assembled 4, 2 Prospec, one box stock, one SRX; Raced all of them).

Thanks in advance!

The TRF421 is what I would consider average on the durability scale of the current crop of higher end touring cars. Not the worst, but not the best. You will break upper arms and steering knuckles if you hit hard enough but the good thing is they are really inexpensive parts. Luckily not much else breaks on the car. I would also stock a few extra front blades.

I don't know if the TRF421X upper arms are any more durable or not.

Indeed the TRF parts are much cheaper. I also have MTC3 in the box as well. Wondering which one I should assemble first. I know it'll be a big jump from even the SRX (having TRF420 suspension parts).

I have spare chassis plate (steel, aluminum, carbon fiber), arms and knuckles for both chassis so shouldn't be an issue if I break them - the problem is if I'll be quick enough to fix that before the next heat.
I'm currently leaning towards the TRF421 for "ease of assembly". I'm still waiting for the 421X to ship which I got because I simply like to support Tamiya to prevent them going the Kyosho (sad) way in 1/10 - which Kyosho was my first real RC back then.

The 421 is definitely an easier car to work on.

You read my mind. I picked up a set and the associated hardware. These probably are more durable than even the 421X arm it seems?

Build the 421 first. Very straight forward build and a good manual.

Stock up on the hubs also, I've broken 2 of these from getting rear ended on corners. $6 a pair, so no reason to not carry a few spares.

New to Tamiya cars Can someone tell me what size and length are needed for the screws withe the balls on them are needed for the car i ordered my 421x kit and id like to order those too. I assume they are to help the body in a crash because light weight bodies are the norm these days
