Just saw HW announced their new V10 G4R motors and it comes in 2 versions, IFMAR and ROAR where IFMAR/EFRA is their "standard" version. They only have a marketing spiel for the ROAR version stating it has better cooling thanks to its "thermo conductive winding epoxy" to dissipate 15% more heat and increase power.

I know there are different rules and standard to follow for IFMAR/EFRA and ROAR sanctioned races, but what would be the main performance differences between the 2? The races I go to dont really care much about IFMAR or ROAR approved electronics, is there a "better" version for me to use?

Also, why only specify ROAR motor have that thermo conductive winding epoxy? If this really lowers temperatures and increase power, why isnt this mentioned as a blanket statement for both versions of the motor?

The only difference between ROAR and BRCA versions of motors that I've seen in the past is that ROAR allows epoxy and BRCA doesn't. I'm assuming BRCA rules mirror IFMAR/EFRA. I would not expect a performance difference other than temperature.

If you dont have to run a roar approved motor I high suggest you dont. The outlawed spec 17.5 and 21.5 motors are noticeable faster as well as cheeper than any roar approved motor. I love my trinity 17.5 punisher and it’s way faster than my roar legal hobbywing g4 or my r1 wurks v21s or and my new reedy sp5 17.5 motor. Hobbywing and fantom also sell outlaw spec 17.5 and 21.5 motors.

The outlawed HW motors are called bandit which im running those already. They have their place in certain class, but sometimes the application calls for a lower torque higher rpm motor the V10 motor would be more suited. Im just curious what is the difference between the ROAR and standard/IFMAR specs.

Change the rotor to a high RPM one. The Bandit stator should still be faster.

Epoxy.

Reedy also has a standard and Euro spec version of the SP5 motors. This is what they mention regarding the difference - "The heat-transfer epoxy coating has been eliminated in the Euro-spec version"

ROAR has now banned epoxy for spec motors…

Now* meaning effective 1st September 2025.

This R1 13.5 has the epoxy so it is not roar legal. At a club level it is fine. And not considered bandit style. You can see how R1 put gray epoxy on the windings. The 1 down side I see is it makes it easier for someone to take off a few winds vs epoxy. I do think epoxy on the windings is bette
