Default Nova R9R Outlaw .24 Onroad engine

Red RC » Nova Engines R9R Outlaw .24 Onroad engine

To throw this onto the market is to me a stupid decision. A true .24 9 port onroad engine that can be bought and used by anyone gives a lot of work for the tech inspection. Nova says that is is no problem because the normal .21 versions are black coated and the outlaw has .24 marked on the crankcase beside of course the marking on the head.
But how many tech inspections are well informed about this? The head can be changed for something else and the .24 can be etched/wiped of the crankcase and so tech inspection needs to open engines to be sure.

Nova says they want to start the discussion of making a step to these engines because they are easier to tune. Is it? Personally I do not think this is the way because it will provoke racers try to use it.
Funny, because Novarossi had the same idea about 6 or 7 years ago and there was not voted for on the EFRA AGM..

What the hell is the point for having a larger engine displacement? Fuel mileage will be shit. Better off as a basher engine for RTRs.

I think the ongoing urge to go faster or create a sale boost. Nova claims that a larger displacement will make the engine easier to tune. To be honest I do not see such tuning issues around me, funny thing though is that there are plenty of complains about the carburettor which is also used on REDS engines. As mentioned Novarossi had a same idea when they were on the edge of bankruptcy, If you have such a production line and some stock when the proposal gets voted for then you will sell them first.

Of course it will be an interesting engine to try but with plenty .23 and larger offroad engines out there this is the the 1st one that does not need huge modifications to go fast with an onroad, it will be actually a direct drop in. And that is why it is a bad idea to put this on the market making it easy to cheat.

Mannnnnn I was really hoping this was an off road engine that caters to the market for all the bashers . An on road timed engine won’t run to its full potential w the shortest (41032) manifold . What a let down .

Then you are looking for a Nova .24 TR6 but I have seen onroad engines in a buggy so this outlaw one should work for sure,

I foresee racers having trouble fine tuning the clutch to match the .24 engines power band and ideal needle settings to compete with a well established .21 engines. Goodluck with the 30min-1 hour mains.

I have 2 T6r , one stock and one modified with the G5r crank . They both run great but I was hoping for more , actually more displacement with GT’esq timing but made without having to conform to any regs like timing numbers and 7mm insert . The market for high speed bashers Gt or offroad is wayyy bigger than the racing community. I’m still amazed no body has made an all out engine for that market . I routinely try and create big bore Gt engines and some work ok some better than others and other become paperweights. These aren’t made to race with but we do race for money at times on golf courses or parking lots . I’ve tried a few Onroad engines in buggies and Gt cars and they never perform well on the top end but then I put an onroad pipeset on the same engien by rotating out the back on my Serpant Cobra 3.1 and it’s lights out fast , the Gt manifolds are just too long for all out rpm /power .Thats why when I first saw the Outlaw .24 I swore it was a Gt engine but nope .. I May get one and machine the block to lower the sleeve and see if I can create what I’m looking for .

I know, but hanging out with such groups I also know most of them are not willing to pay the price that comes with the needed qualty and high strength materials.

Gimar also did convert a 9 port onroad engines to GT so it must be possible. I also do see more and more short manifolds so maybe looking further or shorten one? I think the .24 will give more overal power and maybe to get the right milage it is already lower timed.

your are correct , many of the bashers want the cheapest engine they can find but I’m in groups of manyyy people who have more than a handful fully modified engines who are always looking for the nastiest thing out there and their pursuit for such leads to the addiction we have . I still believe if they made what I described they Would sell them like hot cakes , In fact I’m time I bet there would be a new class for this type of outlaw racing and it could spark the industry to produce components to handle the new power levels . I see it as a win win .

I’m not familiar with the Gimar you described , do you know what it’s called? I think I saw a picture of a Gimar gt manifold that looked much smaller than the V3 Ielasi “V” shaped one , if I can source that I’d love to give it a go . I’ve tested just about every Gt manifold out the and I’d love to squeeze the trigger on that lil Gimar one , every 2mm makes a difference….

Default .24 Outlaw in house

As the title says , mine just arrived . I thought it would have the dlc crack being the “R” model but I assumed wrong . Friday it will be going on the bench and after 1500ml I’ll swap rods since I have personally seen more Nova rods fail than I’d like in the past 6 months. I picked up a 29.5mm ASM Nuclear rod that I will be trying …I’ll Mic it before it goes on . Let’s see what the fuss is about w this engine . Might end up being a super fun Gt engine in the event it’s not timed too high so the Gt manifolds allow it to light up .

A little update on the Outlaw .24 :

So I have been testing it with a small V manifold , it looks like the Ielasi v3 manifold but it’s about 4mm shorter by my measurements and that’s matted to a 9886. I know the manifold is a bit long to take advantage of the rpm it’s designed for but I gave it a try . The engine comes with a .80 shim stack … might have been .90 but I took them out and measured them and not sure if it was .80 or .90 … I had a bunch of shims on my desk later about , my mistake.
So I’m assuming this came shimmed for 16% . I just got some new fuel to try and it’s labeled as “30% off road “ lol ( stuff Is super spicy btw )
after 1700ml on the bench on pure Meth and oil she went into the break in rig . ASM “OS” Wpc coated rod ,Xb8 16/46 gearing , 9mm Venturi , Mito 35 Gt head . Well I had to add .25 worth of shims and a Protek T5 plug to get it to work properly on this fuel . The engine is absolutely insane in this platform with this set up . Nothing I have tested comes close to it . The bottom end kills even the lrp32 and Novarossi 28-8 .. even in modified form . Top end is again on another level even w the longer than designed for manifold. I was blown away after 1000ml of driving and dialing it in . It was like going from 4s to 6s when comparing everything else I have (120 engines ) . Then it hit me , this fuel requires the same shim stack of a 45% nitro setup . I have drag raced a lot over the years with high nitro . I then wipped up some 40/8 and it still wasn’t quite the same as the other fuel lol. Later in the week I’m going to tighten the squish up and put a warmer plug so I can determine how this runs on 25 and 30% fuel so I have an apples to apples comparison vs the other offerings on the market . Man what a buzz kill! I couldn’t compute what I was experiencing it was that violent . Even in a break in setting making a smoke screen the engine would basically free rev on a golf course on badlands .. yeah that’s what 45% nitro will do lol
I’ll post my findings w “normal “ fuel as soon as I get it all dialed in . Damn fellas I thought they created something game changing lol . Damn liquid horsepower got me

Oh side note - it comes w a short needle carb … I like the carb on the T6r more as it’s a long needle . The carb isn’t too bad but when I’m requesting so much fuel from the carb as it’s on 40-45% all that power isn’t being metered perfectly by the carb but with all that power in abundance that equates to wheel spin . Long story short I’ll try and long needle on it in time .

Hello, Where do you get your pure nitro from? Ive been using the 50% drag from VP in my bashers with good success but want to try some 70% that doesn't seem to be available. I know in the past the off road racers used to run 50% and it was readily available. I believe I will have to mix up my own to get some. Thank you for any information you can provide.

I ran home brew 65% for drag at 7% total oil , 4% castor /3 % ester based
and 65% in speed car at 7% oil but 5% castor and 2% ester based oil with success … just don’t lean the motor much for the speed run cars esp if over 240 degrees .
just make sure you monitor the plugs after you shim the engines to run correctly . Give em hell!!!
