Default NOT ZTW...

After inspection and initial setup, including removal of fan/heatsink for application of better thermal paste, this ESC has the same FETs and PCB layout as my Hobbywing XR10 Pro LEGACY model ESC. The ZTW is longer, the ZTW has Caps mounted onboard the PCB and the ZTW's PCB layout is entirely different from the Hobbywing and SurpassHobby ESCs. I am an computer+electrical engineer...I'm not just visually matching products. Also I have used and verified that the Hobbywing LCD Program Card does NOT work with this Surpass TS160v2 Pro ESC.
BTW, everyone should stop the "who makes this or that?" when it comes to Chinese made parts. China does NOT use Company Names, Model numbers or upc codes. They are NOT a free market system and when you see these makes and models they are ONLY for the free trade world and China conforming to our systems of market. That said if you look into where these "brands" come from you will see it's all from Shenzhen China. The manufacturing plant is massive and products made in Shenzhen are usually made in varying degrees of quality and where we get our different brands and different qualities. Sometimes this is done purposely and other times it's done by a product "failing" quality control and simply marketed as a cheaper product under yet another "brand name" marketed to the free world. Surpass, HobbyQueen, HobbyWing, GoolRC, etc are all made in the same plant, sometimes spilntering off at some point of assembly to be branded either as a higher quality or lower quality product.
Shenzhen, not a brand or model, "Shenzhen Tech Co., LTD.".

I know this thread is a bit dated but I’m hoping someone can answer what the “COMPRESS” setting is within the programmer?

it’s the only thing I don’t know, the rest are pretty straight forward. It’s been a great ESC so far, pretty impressed really

Default ☆Firmware Cracking¿☆

Shenzhen technology co. ltd released the Surpass160a Pro ESC under the Fantom brand name. Currently unpacking the executables (all released versions of each) for the Fantom PC Link V.1.0 & V1.1 as well as their "ECSs purchased before December 10th" (as its called) firmware versions & their "ESCs purchaced post December 10th" firmware versions.
I will be comparing the decompiled Surpass, HobbyWing Legacy and Fantom firmwares and PC Link softwares. Looking to debug, cross contaminate, and look for cracks in the armor.
Will update & frelely release any potential updated & compiled projects.
As of this post I have been able to bring the Fantom Boost/Turbo & Throttle Curve/Response settings for the Fantom FR-10's "ESCs purchased before December 10th" firmwares, over to a Surpass firmware package and flash a Surpass 160a Pro V.1. Will try for V.2.0 ESC soon and update......

I think its just the firmware, not actually sure what differences there are in the FW mind. I flashed my 'Drift' version to the 'Racing' firmware and worked fine.

I'm using this esc with a Rocket 4.5T motor and used the programming card to allow brake and reverse. The reverse isn't quite right thought - it seems to decide when it works after multiple brake/reverse action that works across my other RC's. (It's the ESC, I tells ya...!!!) In any event - any insights regarding what is awry would be much appreciated...

Note: First post. I am a newb...

This sometimes happens, you can try "calibrating" your ESC making sure your trims are zeroed out and your endpoints are maxed. Turn off any "brake" features your radio has, if any.
then carefully follow the ESC's calibration instructions.

You can also check to.make sure your "neutral range" is set correctly for your radio, generally you would set this percentage rated value higher for less expensive radios and lower for higher quality radios.
To do this try changing option 6 under A:General Settings, one step higher. Most times I've seen one or both of these steps causing your exact issue description.
Good luck, once you get your ESC dialed in you will thoroughly enjoy it!!!

PS: Your Programming Option C: Brake Settings can help dial in how your brakes work You want to set your Option C Settings somewhere close to the values in the first "Preset Value Column" labeled "MOD Class pre_setup.

Added female 'mini-USB' port to proprietary Surpass 'data port' and was able to connect to SkyRC TS160 Pro's Bluetooth Dongle. After adding SkyRC Firmware and adjusting the Surpass TS160"s naming device function from Surpass 'name' to SkyRC 'name' I was able to connect to SkyRC TS160 Pro's phone app 'RC Gears', data logging information and programming options were available and usability was intact.
Took my SkyRC Ares Pro3-Brushless Sensored 8.5t in a TA02 street basher out for a spin with the now SPOOFED Surpass->SkyRC ESC and all werx'd az it should ....as if it WERE a SkyRC TS160 Pro. Long Live SkyRC.
]Next will be flashing (finally) Mclan Drag Firmwarez......[
[ fingers 🤞 crossed and so far blessed 🙏 haven't had a bricking event ]

Any additional info on this? I assume you took the 4 pin port on the ESC and wired to a micro USB? What was the pin out? Were you then able to simply flash to the SkyRC firmware using the BT dongle or did you need to somehow edit the firmware?

Thanks
