The funny thing is that this mentally is unheard of when talking about the cheaper, off brand, China RC's. In this case, it's "what do you expect, it's a cheap RC" so you're encouraged to buy the "better" name brand RC that you're expected to have to upgrade out of the box??? Okay👍.
It all just depends on the car. My RTR bashers on average have maybe $20 in diff oil, shock springs and shock oil in them. Some cars have more weak points than others, which is the whole point of why I point it out on the Sledge. It’s the first car of like 30 bashers I own (all name brand) that I think really needs a better chassis.

Good discussion, guys.

I just picked up a new Sledge last night, it was on sale for $699.99. I purchased the truck knowing that Arrma/Horizon Hobby/Tower will be doing another huge sale around the holidays. During the last big sale, I picked up an Outcast 8S for about $600.00.

The Sledge just looked like fun. Traxxas products just have a certain appeal to me. It’s probably just the fact that they have that tremendous parts support, won’t discontinue it for twenty years, and the aftermarket support will be amazing.

Lets just enjoy it for what it is. I hope to update everyone on my personal experience with it.

Pot metal is not slang. It has a specific definition. If you use it wrong and are misunderstood, that's on you. Similarly, if you use your RC wrong and you break it, that's on you too.

Yeah, that is irritating. Unfortunately the cost of a RC assembled from all excellent parts from the factory would be too high and most potential customers wouldn't buy them. The entire hobby relies on the sunk-cost fallacy to keep itself in business by selling almost-good-enough RCs to customers who balk at the cost of properly-built RCs. Those customers then buy mandatory upgrades separately because they like the idea of what their new RC ought to be able to do, and they want to see it work as the designers intended before the accountants got in the way.

Oof. On sale for $700? My brand-new smartphone cost less than that...by a lot.

Just checking in to see people's thoughts on the Sledge. My wife bought me one for Christmas. She has noticed my fatigue in dealing with my Nitro's on our occasional backyard race days and Glamis trips.
So far, I love mine. It's huge! The tires dwarf truggy tires so it's definitely Monster Truckish. The tires sound like road noise their so large and heavy lug. It looks like a shorter wheelbase but it's actually the same as my 8ight's. Very fast on 2, 3S. Can pull wheelies easy if you're into that. Handles great in turns. Fairly hard to flip. Low COG. No body clips at all.
I've only run 4 battery sets through it. No breaks, nothing has come loose.

It is the same with mountain bikes. They build stuff just good enough to bring you in. Because no regular person is going to spend 10000 on a bike from jump. The RC And bike industry would die out. Plus upgrading the cost is spread out so it it doesn’t seem that bad

The most I've ever spent on a mountain bike was $4000, and that was for a custom build using a small-production Christini AWD frame. My other bikes cost about $2500 max. People who spend $10000 on a bike for any purpose other than sponsored racing are either insane or incredibly gullible.

Yeah my bike cost about 3000 total, my point is that no one is going to buy a fully upgraded RC it would cost to much for the price of entry for the average person. It is the same for bikes, entry level 800 but if you want really good 2000 to 5000 but if you want fully loaded it can go high as 10,000. My point is if the RC and mountain bike world only built fully upgraded RC and mountain bikes they would go out of business because it is the entry and mid level that keeps the money coming in for the industry.

Do you only run 4s? That is my plan.

4S in these 1/8 MTs and Truggys feels OK on a fresh pack, but half way through you can really start feeling the reduction in voltage...like the fun starts dropping off somewhat. You find yourself at full trigger and wanting more.

Even if say you are running in a smaller space and not able to take full advantage of 6S, you still have plenty of power and acceleration for the duration of the packs.

I don't know why Traxxas starts you out with a low quality spur gear on this truck. Really my expectation with these modern 6S capable trucks is that their drivetrain and power systems *should* be up to the task out of the box.

Default 4s Batteries for sledge.

I bought 2 HRB 4s 9500 120c batteries, to much for the sledge or just right? I figure go 4s for less broken parts.
