Battery issues

I purchased a brand new GTL energy super power 4000mah 7.2v NI-MH. I have installed it in my MF01X chassis with TBLE-04S esc and tamiya torque tuned motor. I’m only getting around 5 mins run time out of the car. I have used it and fully recharged the battery several times to attempt to recondition the battery. Do you think the battery is no good? Any help would be appreciated. The recharge is only taking about 10mins as the light goes off on the charger when it is full. This makes me think the battery is not getting a full charge. Also not getting any heat from the battery during charge.

Also a NiMH will be hand warm once charged.
You are probably experiencing a "false peak" where the battery voltage drops and the charger thinks it is full when it isn't. If the battery isn't warm to the touch, just start the charge again.

First check that the ESC is in Lo voltage cutoff mode. The instructions can be found here: https://www.tamiyausa.com/media/file...-1207-ad8e.pdf
When the ESC is turned on, you should get a short beep. Lipo mode is a long beep. But if you don't know the difference between short and long, you won't be able to tell until you toggle between them.
If that doesn't work...You didn't mention what charger you're using and what settings you were using to charge the battery. I've never driven that Tamiya model before, but based on similar Tamiya brushed motor models, you should probably get ~20 minutes.
