hopefully amain does it like they did with the DTM3.1, where it went to preorder and not long after it showed up.

Working on building my cal3.1, going well so far stuff fits like it should. With the quick change diff I went ahead and left that part for later while getting a few more items done. Anyway, looking at the manual for the diff in comparison to the CAL3, it appears internally its using the YZ4SF2 sun gear shims. From what I recall when I measured it, it appears the yz4sf2 shims are slightly thicker at at 0.25mm versus 0.20mm on the CAL3. So just something to consider if you are looking at using parts from say a CAL3 style diff versus CAL3.1 diff.

Fun vid (not mine) of CAL3.1 first run:

curious to see how this compares to the LD2 on carpet. I’m a big fan of Yokomo quality. Have the yZ4 and I’m trying to figure out a 2wd carpet buggy…

Anyone have a list of what’s changed from the DTM3 to the DTM3.1?

This has been added to the Wiki ...

So got to get my CAL3.1 out there for some racing action. I did a light shake down at my local track, nothing major came to mind for changes other than springs for the rear that better fit our track (stiffer yellow V2 rears, original had gone with blue V2s).

The CAL3.1 got its first test as part of Round # 4 at the RC Underground Track in Warren MN. The conditions there are older CRC Gray ozite carpet from what I understand that can be bumpy underneath at times. Pretty big jumps with flat landings that can happen and a pretty nice new wall ride as can be seen here:

There is a section that basically you took as a quad jump with very short landing ramps and a triple with the same going into a turn. This section could be very difficult to master and costly if you hit it wrong.

After doing some laps I ended up going back to my original base setup which was mainly changing the springs and I went with a different set of tires that offered a bit more side grip. Rest was pretty much what I had tested out locally.

In comparison to my previous CAL3 with some .1 changes, I was shocked how stable the car was and how muh steering I had on and offpower. A section that at times folks were having some issues consistently clearly as a full double they would just single single, I was able to pretty much do it all the time with little run up as the felt would just plant the landing and go.

By Second heat, I was able to put a full lap over the rest as the TQ.

In the main, without getting a bit out of sorts about midway, the car had it in it to do that again. I ended up however keeping ahead of the competition even with some mental errors and finished 1st. Heck of a car!

Here is the setup from that event

There are more differences, off the top of my head in addtion to what was already mentioned:

- Front hingepin mount
- Rear a-arms
- Rear cvds
- battery mounts
- chassis side guards
- sway bar (its 1.3 stock instead of 1.4mm)
- Rear tower brace
- Rear ballstud mount

there may be some more but that is what I am thinking.

Cranked this out in 4 hours, I think it’s the fastest I’ve ever built a kit. Where do y’all order parts from in the US? Amain has some of the parts I’m looking for, but not all.

My kit was missing one of the diff inserts (unfortunately the one I need), but Amain is taking care of me quickly and easily as usual.
