Notes-This car requires extra smooth throttle and steering input, but is one of the funnest to drive and watch going around the track! I was able to shave 44 seconds off my time from earlier in month. Only changed the t-plate, but think the extra weeks of practice on this layout with my other cars and maybe the current temperature and humidity just helped this car get around a lot more consistently and without the risk of rolling, which is usually a problem. Or maybe the Focus heard I was thinking of switching to the RX-7 body in this class next month. Either way, not sure I can top this run!

I have been thinking about our current classes since the question came up, and have some brief thoughts to share. Above quotes just to group with this response.
  • Stock 86 class can be deleted. I don't know if anyone has ever competed in this class, and it is very close to the current 86/90mm Narrow and Porsche Cup classes.
  • Stock 86/90mm Narrow class can be expanded to include 94mm wheelbase cars (like certain NSXs, Toyota 86/BRZ, 2008 Impreza WRC, Lancer and other rally bodies) as long as chassis is set to narrow front end and running 8.5mm 0 offset wheels all around. In fact I'd be fine with no wheelbase limit in this class as long as the other conditions are met.
  • Like Jim, I am a big fan of the Group C cars and I love the way the 102mm wheelbase cars drive, but they are never going to be as quick as a 94 or 98mm WB car on a Mini-96 layout, so I would like to see a separate 102mm LM class. It can follow the stock or pro-stock motor rules. I have 4 of these cars (2 that fit the Stock rules and 2 the Pro Stock), but don't run them as much or post results when I do because they are not as fast. A separate LM class might increase their use and prominence.
This does not change the total number of classes, but might increase participation in certain ones. Again, racers can run as few or as many classes as they wish based on their available cars and time and there is no requirement to run a minimum number of classes, or the same classes each month. I am very thankful to have this challenge, especially during the pandemic, and these suggestions are solely intended to help increase participation based on my 13 years of racing these cars. I have many more cars than we have classes, so I can work with whatever is decided.

Hello All,
Another decent month for participation with 7 drivers competing on Box Stock and a total of 5 classes having times submitted. Once again we had some seriously close racing in both Box Stock as well as Stock classes. In Box Stock the second and third place spot was separated by 2/10ths of a second after 75 laps and in Stock, where we had a bit of an upset, first and second were separated by less than 4/10th after 75 laps......talk about some good, close racing. I also love seeing the Porsche Cup Class getting some attention, we had a couple folks pony up and find Porsche bodies to run the Porsche Cup.

Here are the full results for March:

Box Stock
7th-Thunderbear- 380.5s/4.34s
6th-MilehighRC- 363.0s/4.00s

Nice work all.......

As mentioned April will run the same circuit as March but Anti-Clockwise.

Cheers,
Jim

Default Following along

I just wanted to pop in and mention that I will be following along from month to month. I have an EVA/pvc/insulation track that I set up in my basement. It was configured with 3 foot wide lanes but I wanted to get some idea of how I am doing so I reconfigured it to April’s mini-96 layout.

My track is very unforgiving to accidents - as the car has plenty of places to wedge under when I contact a wall - so accidents cost a lot of time compared to a proper RCP.. but no matter, I will strive for perfect runs :-)... I can’t expect everything for a knockoff haha..

here is a picture of my track - the box is my lap counter (I had to shield it so it wouldn’t pick up my car by error when passing behind the sensor).

so clearly I will not be included in any official rankings - and I’m not asking for a special “outlaw class” just for me - but if others have knock-off tracks, perhaps it could add more drivers to the mix...

I was wondering the same thing. Guessing he is busy with work, but he is missing out on an exceptional layout for Mar/Apr. Might be my favorite so far!

Plus I just laid down a nearly perfect run with my Stock F-430GT. Who's going to catch me this month?

Default Track Ordered

I didn’t start with a mini-96 because I was afraid that the smallness of the track would make it less fun or too slow or too tight.

After spending about a week with my knock-off mini-96 track - I’m completely hooked. It does not feel slow or confined or any of those negative things I thought it would be. I wish I had just ordered this in the first place.

In a week I went from > 6 second laps to averaging 4.75-4.85 second laps. My knock-off track requires re-adjustment about every other run and is becoming a general source of frustration.

so I ordered a mini-96 RCP track and it will be here in about 2 weeks... I hope...

hopefully I will get it in time to log an AWD open entry for April.
