USGT racing tomorrow in San Marcos, CA!

Hopefully we get at least 10 out of 40ish drivers have a USGT car.
The others are racing 17.5, euro, F1, and minis.

I know this is going back years in this thread but I just built my first kit TLR 22 5.0 AC and i bought the turnigy trackstar 17.5 esc motor combo. This thing is slow as shit I'm the slowest on the track. The pros at my local club said theres something wrong and it's a slug and shouldn't be this slow. They looked at my setup and said it shouldn't be this slow because everything else looks perfect. Does this motor esc combo just suck that much?

Interesting, a 17.5 turn motor should smoke a USGT 21.5 turn spec motor. So I'm guessing that your club runs 17.5 turn motors in USGT. If your motor is slow compared to other 17.5 motors, then I'd take a close look at the timing. See if one of the pros will put your motor on a motor analyzer and compare your timing to the guys that are a lot faster than you. Most of my 17.5 and 21.5 motors are timed around 45 degrees. But that was one of the good things about the USGT spec motor. It has fixed timing which means one more thing you don't have to worry about! If it's not timing, then look at the gearing. The fast guys might be running a different final drive ratio than you are.

This is an on-road Thread for USGT touring cars....You might try posting in the thread specific to your buggy (TLR 22 5.0).
Assuming you have proper gearing, it might be as simple as re-calibrating your transmitter to the ESC by following the instructions included with the combo.
The ESC and motor you have is statistically perfectly adequate. You are experiencing a setup issue.

Those Trackstar 17.5T motor are really slow. Those are 8-9 years behind in technology. I would suggest getting what the fast locals are running. They could also help you with the correct timing and gearing.

To the OP, I just saw that you are running a buggy, not an onroad car in USGT. So PLEASE do NOT run 45 degrees of timing in an offroad car, you will burn up the motor. And please don't ask me how I know!

Not USGT related, but figured I'd respond to the new guy to help him out.

I have one of the older silver Trackstar 17.5 motors. I picked up a motor analyzer and was doing some testing today. The TS 17.5 has a hard stop on the timing and the maximum was 39 degrees. At that timing it was pulling 1.7 amps and did 2447kv at 19337rpm. Pretty bad IMO. Although this is a motor from 2012, it doesn't have much run time. As a comparison, I have a Trinity D4 17.5 and at 35 degrees it pulled 5.9 amps and did 3303kv at 25768rpm. I was curious, so I took the TS 17.5 apart to see if I could advance the timing any further. I removed one of the rotor shims and loosened the timing screws and was able to go over the timing stops. I dialed it in to 6.0amp and that resulted in timing of 49 degrees, 3189kv and 24562rpm.

Before adjustment I had the TS17.5 geared at 69/35 (5.13 FDR) in my TRF201 buggy and it would run forever without getting hot. No idea how it would compare in racing as I've never raced it. If I want to run the new timing level, I'm sure I'll have to gear down and watch the temperatures.

Food for thought and may shed some light as to why the TS 17.5 seems so slow.

If the only way you're going to have fun is if you finish in the top 3, then you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

I was about to re-kit to a mid motor car for this reason but I remembered why I started racing which is to simply have fun and go fast. 👍

the Spec USGT motor is not that bad on a medium asphalt track the motor is pretty fast between 3.0-3.2,

Is a 6000 enough battery for usgt?

You should be fine. I use a 5800. Also depends on track and weight needed to get to the 1380 grams.
