Default Need .12 Air Filter Help

Good morning Gentlemen (and a few ladies I'm sure),

I'm digging my RC stuff out of storage for something to do during the pandemic; it hasn't been used much in the past several years but was treated well so I'm hoping for good things.

My immediate issue is that I need air filters for my two .12 engines. I believe they're both Novarossi designs, although one was marketed as HPI and the other as Mugen Seiki. The foam in both have fallen apart. One was just a chunk of foam, the other was a stack of foam rings inside a plastic and wire mesh framework. The rubber boot where they mount to the carburetor is about 14-15 mm across the inside.

So I bought the Dynamite filters advertised as fitting all .12 engines and the air passage was far too narrow. Most filters sold online don't have the specs regarding what carbs they fit. I came across the Motor Saver site and see some that looks like they might work, but I don't want to repeatedly order online and then have to worry about returning anything that doesn't fit.

Any advice about compatible filters would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Novarossi and Xceed are well used filters.

I like HPI's 2-stage filters: https://www.hpiracing.com/en/part/87207

The inner foam is oiled (and appears to be made of a material that doesn't degrade from oiling, like a lot of older air filter foams do), and the outer foam is dry so it can be dusted off easily. I use them in combination with Associated Factory Team air filter oil, which gets sticky after being applied. The foam has a lot of surface area so it doesn't restrict airflow. I use them on almost all of my engines, even a 6.5cc 4-stroke engine.

Again, he is talking abou Novarossi engines, so race spec. At many clubs and competitions a so called INS-BOX is needed......

He was talking about a Novarossi engine that was rebranded as a HPI engine (the 12R XS, I think), and that isn't really a race spec engine.

However, I do need to correct my recommendation, because the air filter I suggested won't fit. Traxxas air filters do fit those larger carb inlets, though.

Know your products... That model engine as also a Novarossi .21 with the HPI logo were sold for the racecar line, the R40 and the Proceed.
