Cheapest place to buy TRX-4?
#1
Hi everyone!
With Black Friday/Cyber Monday almost upon us I'm thinking about buying a Traxxas TRX-4.
Not interested in the Sport/Tactical/G500.
Tossing up between the Defender/Bronco/Blazer.
Leaning towards the Defender.
Problem is I'm not sure where to look...
Looking for a cheap deal - happy to buy online - but lots of places (in Australia anyway) seem to not have any stock?
Any suggestions?
Kind regards,
Zennon

Traxxas doesn’t really allow sellers to alter prices. They are what they are. Used might be best option for finding a deal.
Those CrossRC are something completely different. All about realistic look.

Actually, you’ll find this from all of the big manufacturers. They establish a MAP (Min. Advertised Price) that all retailers must adhere to, or risk being restricted from selling the products. When you do see a car/kit below that price, it’s dictated by the manufacturer directly. It’s all about maintaining the “value” of said products. This is standard practice in the consumer electronics industry as well - particularly with many of the big name manufacturers (Sony, Samsung, etc.)

Although after seeing some of the feedback about the driveline quality I'm a bit hesitant to get one

You might want to take a look at what the aftermarket has to offer. There are some really nice bodies available for a variety of chassis (they seem to be making them by wheelbase). For example, I've seen the same Jeep Rubicon body mounted on both the SCX10 and TRX-4 in a trail video I saw on YouTube (I forget the manufacturer of the body), as they were both set up with the same wheelbase. Looking at third parties also give you the option of going with Lexan, or a hard body plastic shell, which has a lot more potential for scale looks - Of course, you'd better be up on your painting skills, hehe.
Look up "Kisun's RC Life" on YouTube - he has quite a few trail videos using chassis with aftermarket bodies from time to time. He is obsessively good with his detailed builds. After so many years away from the hobby, I'm pleasantly surprised at how popular trail running/crawling has become - especially since the segment didn't even exist when I last enjoyed the hobby. Heck, I might even get one down the line. It seems like a nice change of pace from the rigors of racing competition.

Ps.
Update: Got myself a Red TRX-4 Defender!
Normally they are ~850AUD on ebay
Crazy Hobbies (shop in Sydney) had it listed for 739AUD on their ebay store
With code PRINCE200 I got another $50 off
So got it for 689AUD
Can't wait to drive it!
