I finally just got a chance to get my new Tacon Valor out and running. I noticed that it was acting like it was missing a gear and stuttering, at low speed, and then took off when I gave it more throttle. It would slowly chug along and then take off when more throttle applied. It was brand new but I still tore it down looking for improper gear mesh or stripped gears, but all looked fine and spinning freely. I took the motor out and applied a bit of pressure, with my thumb, to the pinion gear. There was considerable stuttering at low throttle, but goes away and spins freely when more throttle applied. I don't have much experience with brushless setups. Is this something to be expected? If not how can I remedy this? Thanks in advance.

Do you have a sensor cable attached? Sounds like a bad or unplugged sensor cable.

Redo your calibration on ESC to motor. Then check pinion, you may have to drop 2-4 teeth. Its not like a brushed motor.

It is just a simple sensorless system, that is normal.....

If you have an ESC program card with it or you can do some timing adjustment through the setup button on the ESC you can try to make it less with a lower timing.

This is a smaller 1/14 car right? I used to have the same cogging on those 380 sensorless motors.... the larger 540 sized motors don't tend to cog as bad.

I recall Novak had made a sensored 380 motor once, you might be able find a used one for sale on the net and that will eliminate your cogging woes

most likely your timing and/or gearing is way off.

-set your ESC back to nuetral or default timing settings.
-set your motor to its default timing (usually somwhere in the middle range)
-then check if it cogs, if so go down in pinion size gear ...keep going down til it stops cogging.
...if that doesn't solve it then there is something else going on, -faulty sensor wire connection perhaps?

I had reset the ESC to factory defaults. Then I incrementally lowered the timing to "0". That didn't help. I hooked up the motor in my car(no load) to an ESC in my sons other car and the stuttering almost went away. The more I read up on this, the more I find other people having the same issue with this ESC/Motor combo. The majority replace the ESC and its fine. I'll try throwing a smaller pinion in there to see if that helps, but if it doesn't, what size ESC should I look for?

A Hobbywing Quicrun 16BL30 would be a great choice to fit in there. I've never had a terrible cogging issue using a Hobbywing sensorless setup.
