Oh brother, does this mean I have to go out and buy all new motors?

Does anyone know if any previously approved motors don't meet this new IR rule? And if so, are they still legal?

55.6 milliohms* between any 2 phases of the motor (AB, AC, BC), when measured at 25C with an
Instek GOM 802 milliohm meter.

I haven't seen any below 27..Ive seen one 26..but one out of many

All previously approved motors meet these rules, if they are constructed correctly. The numbers were based, in part, on the measurements taken during approval.

I have a feeling a good number of these new "hot" 21.5's are going to be on the cutting edge of that 55.6 rule. But a pass is a pass

I'll have to measure my new 21.5. But whew, my 17.5 passes. At least using my Hioki meter. Yeah, yeah, I know, it's not the official meter to use and I wasn't at 25c either(23.8c). Guess I can put it in the thermal chamber at work and retest.

Since they specified a meter, if one of us techs out of spec, are we going to be able to demand a current calibration certificate for the meter being used?

LOL yep, more rules so we all need new motors. Wouldnt want to be able to use the same motor for more than a year without needing a new one. Gotta keep that money flowing...then people wonder why people dont stay in the hobby.

No need for a new motor. All the current motors are being built to be within the new rules.

There might be a few of the newest crop of motors that are under the new minimum resistance... might be. And if they are, they won't be under by more than 1ohm. And that can be within calibration tolerances on various ohm meters.

When the 25.5's went through ROAR approval with a min resistance that stabilized those motors. I ran the same motor at two Indoor Champs and I am still running it. New motors are coming from everyone that will be to the new regulations. If you run 21.5 or 17.5 it will mean you will probably buy a new motor. But they will be stabilized also. There will always be better mousetraps but the incremental change will be small after this next set.

No, this means exactly the opposite. These rules will extend the useful life of existing motors.

I would love to stir the pot some more but I'm trolling and just want to up my thread count some more. So Ill take my 55 y.o. misinformed butt to another thread and troll some more.
