I'm guessing its a NASCAR Bobby Allison set. Slixx decals used to make 1/10 scale NASCAR sets.

Default Fresh paint

Paint by Mikey hooked me up! I needed a "Vintage" body for Windy City. Pffft to that rule. My colors, but still his art.

Got a chance to run the new McAllister Cuda body last night. I have to admit I'm very happy with the body. I'll be ordering extras! Thanks McAllister for picking up and producing this classic body

I want to make a rear spoiler for my McAllister Cougar body. I've watched a few youtube videos on bending various plastics, so have some ideas. However, I wanted to see if anyone has any personal experience/advice on making their own r/c car spoilers.

I also had the idea of just cutting a rectangular piece of flat lexan or nylon and attaching it to the rear deck lid. A rear wing was an option on the Cougar, just like the Mustangs of that era. Of course if I you could just buy the rear wing from the HPI Boss Mustang, that would be perfect.

One other thought would be to get someone to 3D print a hard plastic wing or bolt on spoiler.

I'm not looking for any aero advantage. I just like the look of the wing on the back of the Cougar. Below are a few pics of Cougars with a wing and a spoiler...

Here's an option a customer did with our Cuda. Would probably work on the Cougar as well....

I used a piece of flat Lexan. The rules allow 20mm chord and 16mm height off the deck. Pretty simple and light.

Thanks for posting pics of spoilers.

Can someone explain what chord means in relation to a spoiler? I've never really understood that. Does it mean how long the material is? If you had a really big chord but only could have have the highest point above the rear trunk lid a few millimeters, would the angle of the spoiler be very low? Would it look something like this?

I think Chord is the length from the top to the bottom. So if you have a curved wing or spoiler, you measure the straight line between those two points. So based on the VTA rules, the length of the spoiler can be 20mm but it must not be any higher then 16mm.

It is my understanding that "chord" is the distance from the deck to the top of the spoiler measured parallel to the to the device. Angle to the deck lid would determine overall height from the deck to the top of the spoiler. So per the rules you can have a 20mm width(chord) leaned back until the overall height(angle) is 16mm measured at the intersection of the deck lid and device. It can be beneficial to attach the device to the rear of the car between the tail lights so that you can achieve a marginally greater angle of attack on the spoiler blade not to mention stiffen the rear of the body.

Here is a quick picture if I understand this correctly...

If the rules state that the size of the spoiler chord is a bigger length than the height it can be off the rear deck/trunk, then you must install the spoiler at an angle so it doesn't exceed the maximum height if using the maximum length chord. For example, my picture with the 45 degree angle.

If you tried to use maximum chord length (if bigger than height) and installed it at a 90 degree angle, it would exceed the maximum allowed height and be illegal. So to be legal for a 90 degree spoiler, the chord size would be the same size as the maximum height?

Now you could also mount the spoiler at a 0 degree angle to the rear deck/trunk and you would never exceed the maximum height.

If I'm thinking about this the wrong way, please let me know.

Bingo!! The only deviation from this would be if there is a rule about how far back beyond the vertical plane of the body the device can extend.
