Reduce cooling fan speed
#1
Hey guys. Picked up a yeah racing tornado cooling fan at my LHS but when hooked up to my esc it's crazy fast and loud. It's a 5v 0.28a fan and the 6v 1.5a I'm feeding it is way more than I need. Can anyone suggest an easy way to cut the voltage down? Resistors?

RCmart did It did say the fan is rated for 8.4v 2 cell lipo power so I dont believe your feeling it way more than it needs. As it being too loud and crazy fast, as long as it can effectively cool your ESC/Motor, I wouldnt worry too much about it. You wouldnt be able to hear it once your car is on the track

Yeah it's definitely obnoxious. Def need to reduce voltage. Besides my motor doesn't get crazy hot. Just need average cooling.
Gigaplex, just one resistor across the hot wire? (Red)

Yes, just a single 5 ohm resistor in series with the fan. 10 ohm resistors seem to be easier to source, if that's all you can get, you can put 2 10 ohm resistors in parallel to get 5 ohms, then put that unit in series with the fan.
