Official Tekin RX8 GEN2 ESC Thread
#3571
Have an issue that hopefully one of you Tekin guru's can help me with. I installed a RX8
on my Tekno truggy and i am experiencing a perplexing issue;
The Steering servo is not powering up everytime. When i turn the ESC on, the servo is dead. If i unplug the servo from the receiver (which powers up every time) and then plug it right back in, it turns right on and works fine. Power the switch off, and the process repeats the next time.
I have tried Rebinding radio and receiver, calibrating the ESC, with or without my extension wire (Ko has short leads that cant reach the receiver box), I tried a different receiver, a different servo (same brand and model), and im getting the same results every time.
I was messing with it earlier. When i turn on the ESC and the servo doesn't immediately center, i shut the switch right back off. If i keep cycling power like this (on, no servo, right back off, on, no power right back off), the servo does eventually power up normally. It takes anywhere from 5-10 tries. Everything else is fine, no glitching, and no other misbehaving at all. As this is a HV servo, the BEC is set as such. Please advise.

That might be a little too much power for the 48.4 because you have limited pinion options.I belive 14t is the smallest it would take. And I would go with 13t or smaller for that setup.

After talking with Randy this weekend at "The Birds" 257 is loaded on the new RX8's being sold. Field evaluations show great reliability improvements over 255. New release for Hotwire soon. Also for 10th scale RS/RSX 258 coming soon too. I won't comment on other stuff coming but look out guys Im stoked for the near future.

So I got a new rx8 gen2 and installed it into my truggy. Sinked the receiver with the transmitter then calibrated the rx8 and everything was working. I then updated the software on the rx8 to 255 since it came with version 238. Now when I turn it on, nothing, nada. only the servo will work. Not a single light comes on the rx8. If I plug it into the hotwire the center red light comes on and the software shows me all my settings and that I'm running v255. I did all this in 1 night so it's not like I ran it then things went wrong, it's never seen the road yet. Do I have to revert back to v238? If yes how? I've got 2 new smc 6700 4s batteries I tried to see if anything changed, nothing. I tried holding down both buttons on the esc for 6 or so seconds to try and reboot, died. Also I am running a Futaba 4px, not sure if that matters since at 1st everything was working.

Thanks, I will try both of those. I did not think I needed to rebind the receiver, only the esc after the update. I might have the the fan plugged in incorrectly even though I thought it was plugged in right?
On a side note, does plugging the cable that came with the esc into the fan port do anything on the rx8?

If you are shipping new units with the new software, that software should be available for us to download as well. Especially if there is improved reliability and additional features.
Edit: This seems backwards.. it seems if you are testing.. keep it internal or for the team and then roll out to the public. Or if you want additional feedback, make it available as a "Beta".. so those of us who already have an RX8 Gen 2 can install and provide feedback. We have heard 257 being out with new units since November.. it is now February, that is 4 months now.
