Hey guys i got my MT410 on order. I ussually use Tekin Electronics but wanted to be able to hit a puddle and not worry about it. I was stuck between the Hobbywing max8 and the Castle mamaba monster x. I went with the Mamaba Monster X and 2200kv combo. I also went with the Hitec 7950TH servo. Also i have the Badlands MX38. cant wait to get it i will post pics soon. What pinion would you guys recommend on 4s? should i do anything to the receiver or the servo to protect from say a puddle? I am not going to be like muding or anything but i want to run it without worry about it.

I would run the smallest pinion that fits, which is going to be around 15T. FYI, I've seen someone else run into the following problem, which is when that massive tire balloons it will increase your overall tire diameter which will increase your top speed which will cause you to run hot. Also the weight of that tire will cause more heat. That combo will put you at 51 mph no-load gearing, but if the tires balloon 1" that takes it to 66 mph, if they balloon 2" that takes it to 81 mph. Just keep that in mind. Ideally, you would want to belt the tires with fishing line braid to eliminate ballooning. Another option is to just choose a lower kv motor.

I have the same set up. I recommend 17T. I used 15T and 16T before and it wheelied too much. Not easy to control. I recommend 17T. My 2200KV was fine at 120F after 6700mah of batteries. I live in Cali which is not that cold.

Servo -Hi tec servos are water resistant so I wouldn't worry about it. I put the whole car into a deep puddle. Check out kms7852 on youtube and you can see what happened.
The servo and esc and motor were all fine. receiver got fried and I started doing the zipper bag mod and it helped.

Thanks for all the help guys I can't wait to get this sucker built. I understand that 2200kv is allot but I do not want to run a real low KV because I already have 4s lipos and don't want to have to get 6s as well just for the truck.
I do have a Hpi scream 1965kv motor and hpi rage esc but I think the castle 2200kv combo would be better. I am not really doing speed runs. I will monitor Temps.
Thanks for the waterproof ideas guys.

Awsome! I have smc 6700mah 4s lipos as well I will try a 17t pinion and keep eye on the Temps as well. I have a 2000kv tekin on my et48.3 and I just don't feel like it would be enough to me on the monster truck on 4s.

You really run a 17T pinion on a 2200kv motor with the Badlands MX38s (the 176 mm diameter ones, not the 149mm 3.8s)? And it really wheelies less, than with smaller pinions? I would of expect the opposite, ...and fried electronics with that set-up.

17t tames the power down. I run a 17t on a 2100kv in my ET with no problems. MT is very similar.

What he said ^
. Gearing up does not tame power on brushless systems, unless it causes you to run into any limiters because of it.
Are you running 176 mm diameter, 400+ gram weighing tires with that set-up as well ezlight? Otherwise we're comparing apples with pears.

I ran it with my 3.8 Trencher X Monster Truck tires.
This is gearing 101 basic. If you gear down, 15T for example, you will have more torque. That will cause you to wheelie more. It will have less top speed and more acceleration. Potentially less motor temp.
If you gear up, 17T for example, you will have more top speed and less acceleration. It will have less torque so you will have less tendency to wheelie more. It will likely have higher motor temp compared to 15T.
In my experience 17T was the sweet spot with 2200KV motor. 15T and it did wheelie and backflip so much that it was dancing like it was alive. Check out Savage Sam's video on Youtube and he will say "It's Alive!" on his MT410 video.
When I called TEKNO back in the day to figure out my MT410 gearing, they recommended 16T. They told me that's what they used in the promotional video.

I think everyone understands gearing 101. However, rc cars are not bicycles. Gearing up a brushless motor creates more watts/power, this is not my opinion it is a fact. My car has WAY more low end acceleration geared 34/32 than it does geared 15/44.
