Default tire cleaning

I was wondering what techniques are used for cleaning the tires after use.
I tend to use brake cleaner, but I don't really like it. (Health hazard, smell)
Any tips?

I always used lighter fluid or tire traction compound then wipe with a rag. The problem with using motor spray or brake cleaner is that it dries out the foam or rubber.

I do a 5 to 10 lap scrub in then there ready to run. I usually dont clean the tires. I use masking tape on them to get the small particles off of them and thats it. Seems to work for me.

I found that cleaning tires with lighter fluid can be fine, but you may want to wait an hour or so to let them dry out before applying sauce or you will have less traction for the next run. If I am going to run tires soon I will usually wipe them off with a blue shop towel and a dab of tire sauce as the cleaner, this is more consistent.

Thanks for your advice!
Are there any methods that do not involve chemicals? I'm looking for a way to get the tires clean that I can use indoor, without any smell.

Do you actually want to clean them or just move the dirt around? You wont get the tires what I would call clean without some kind of cleaning solution and anything water based will take forever to dry out of the tire.

Lighter fluid for flick lighters has nearly no smell, but the Ronsol and Zippo fuel is expensive. The charcoal grill fluid smells a bit because it's less refined but you can get a liter of it for less than a 100ml bottle of the good stuff.

Im not sure what you use for tire compound but I use SXT 3.0, they also make a cleaner that I use too before applying compound. I haven't noticed that it smells too bad. Dries quick too. I am sure it is some relabeled product that you can buy a gallon for half the price but I prefer to use R/C products as they are the ones that support our hobby.

Again, thanks for the solid advice.
For additive, I run the speedtech compound that Markus mobers sells.
Works really well on the ETS carpet we have here.

It seems that the touring cars and f1 cars leave a lot of gunk on the track that our tires tend to pick up. When we ran the masters of foam race last month the tires came of the track relatively clean. Right now, the tires come off the track completely covered in a black paste.

Something else you might try is a cleaner called Goo Gone(like this: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Goo-Gone-...Spray/17300573 ), I've tried it as both cleaner & traction compound on natural rubber(both on & off-road) & foam tires, & it does an excellent job of removing gunk, as well as works for improving grip. I first tried it on off road tires that I had been using SXT 3.0 on, & it worked every bit as well, & actually worked faster(didn't need to soak the tires for very long), plus as you could see from the link, it's VERY affordable & one bottle can last for several months(I usually get about 6 months of use out of one bottle of that size). For cleaning the clag off your tires(that rubber buildup, I like the full scale F1 guys' terms for it), I think it works great, & the smell is like oranges(not real strong, I think it uses citrus based oils in it, among its ingredients) & it dries fast. Might be worth a try....
