2 reasons- traction and consistency
The pores of the foam act as a microscopic tread. If the pores are clogged up with gunk, you have reduced traction.
At the same time, if your tires are clean when you sauce them, they should be more consistent from run to run.
I use Muddslide tire cleaner (basically odorless lighter fluid) and a tire scraper to clean my foam tires. http://www.lefthander-rc.com/catalog...oducts_id=2443

Most good drivers who are cleaning tires are doing so to have a consistent tire run to run and very often to take away the sticky feeling which feels like increased grip. If you're searching for grip on a carpet track I would suggest not cleaning your foam tires run to run.
I know I have seen one before...
What are you guys using instead of a receiver pack? I know there are "boosters" or whatever that let you run a regular 2S ESC with a 1S car like the 12th scale....
I searched on A Main and couldn't find it....I am sure I am looking for it the wrong way...

It says 1A, but tests at about half that... which is fine for most 1/12 scale servos.
I have a spare Hobbyking and an old Novak (which is larger, but has more output current) that I can bring to FastLane next Sunday if you want to give them a try.
