RIDE & SHIMIZU F1 RUBBER TIRES
#316
Its normal for the tires to do that, even on asphalt. It usually takes a ton of runs before it gets to that point.

Even if they didn't groove and you tested against a new set the new set would be Faster.
Tires are not just as fast until you wear out the rubber to the belt.

If you dont have problem with rear grip, dont aply tire gripper to that part. I usually wet centre up to 3mm off the edges.

I was gonna say.....New kicks are always faster. Now as far as drop off after the 1st couple runs at maximum performance, they are usually a tenth or 2 slower but will stay in this range for quite some time in the tires life. I personally have never run until that happens.

I race F1 with some success on "seasoned" tires on asphalt and carpet.
New tires always make my F1 cars feel edgy and a little unpredictable compared to used ones. A few runs and they're good to go for a long time for me.
Now with touring cars, completely different story. If I could afford it, I would only run new meats. Not even close when worn a little.

It's been all 21.5 til just recently, and mostly on asphalt.
Tamiya track rates as tiny? I didn't think so but that is where I've used most of my F1 tires.
Only a couple times have I tried freshy tires in a big race there and never won doing that.
It's always been on used skins that I've had my best races, easier to drive and no noticeable drop off in laptimes, actually quite the opposite.
My fastest laps have been on scrubs.

Just busting your chops. I talked with Mike Rydwell a little and you guys run a lot different tire setup then we do up north. Hey whatever works. I would love to only run "seasoned" tires.Easy on the wallet.

Racenut and Cuda are both right. What it means is the best tire is very dependent on the track that you run at. I took a trip up north and the scuffed and ballistic set of 72/kit tires that are great at Socal were horrendous up north. Wasted a day changing setups trying to make them work. Bought a new set of 71/72 from the guy pitted next to me and bingo- I was battling with the fast guys (Racenut) for podium... 71/72 combo on an asphalt track- crazy!
fyi- I tried the Ride XR's as well... undriveable at that track.
