I started racing two years ago using an X-Car 45A, which worked great until I smoked it with reverse polarity.
Since then I've owned at least 6 TrackStar 120a Turbo Gen1 and they've all been terrific value for the dollar amount. When I was running in stock classes I was plenty competitive with folks running some high-dollar gear.
There's a couple of dedicated TrackStar/Hobbyking threads out there with opinions, so don't forget to look around there.

Make sure that the ESC you buy is on the ROAR-approved "Blinky" list:

You mentioned in your original post the Turnigy Trackstar 120A Turbo #9192000048, and this is approved. I have used one for both VTA (Touring Car) and Street Stock (dirt oval) with good results. Make sure you get the correct programming box: "Program Box for 80A/120A Turbo ESC", #9192000049.
