Tekin Esc troubles
#16
There are a lot of Tekin fans on here, much like the old Maxamps thing! My experience has been that Tekin RS / RS Pro / RS Gen 2 / RSX have been solid for me. The RX8 is good for 4wd SCT on 2s. On 1/8 applications it tends to be borderline, I know where I race it's pretty much been abandoned for 1/8 On road as it just doesn't cope, very much prone to running hot / glitching if you're lucky or spontaneous combustion if you're not. Warranty is 120 days and is a battle, have heard of people being told it was their motor, they told me my batteries caused it, which is complete BS given that I test everything, amp load, check battery internal resistance etc. Most of us here have gone to the Trackstar 150A Esc which is 1/3 the price, has Warranty 3 times as wrong and isn't half the battle to get it as well!
Tekin have a company presence on here that is very defensive of their products (as I would be if my paycheck was dependant on it) and are very quick to delete any non positive posts on their facebook page etc.
I would look at another ESC, see if that fails as well. When mounting your ESC try some shoo goo as it has a bit of give but holds strong.

I had problems with a Tekin RX8 Gen 2 myself.. eventually built a raised platform for the ESC that helps keep the controller of the chassis.
The RX8 sits on an Axial Yeti Carbon Fiber ESC Mounting Plate, with a layer of Kyosho vibration gel between the controller and plate. I then zip tied the controller to the plate and the plate is attached to the chassis using some rubber plumbing washers.
Saw the idea somewhere else on this board, so I thought I would give it a try. Built it for both my son and I and neither cars have had any issues despite the most brutal crashes.

Or someone can post the picture for me.

I have noticed that while the kyosho gel is very jiggly and awesome for vibration, it won't hold on its own.
Mine came loose the first time at the track. Lots of endos and brutal flips though. I ended up running the zip tie under the ESC plate and over my RX8G2. I am going to see about some rubber washers under the plate(good idea).
I would say 99% of the racers at my indoor off road track are either original RX8s or the G2. I don't see much else in SCT or ebuggy.

That's why I got the tekin system, I have some friends that have never had a problem in there 1/8 buggies.... Do you mean a bad batch problem or something in my setup I use 50 80 100c -4s batteries so I don't think I'm even close to the limits of the system.
The gearing is stock 44 spur and 14 or 16 pinions

Breaking cases! Location maybe the problem, double up on double sided stick tape(3M tape).
Maybe someone could tell me , Why use a BEC when running 4S?? Tekins has own BEC built in already?

Ck the temp on ESC by your LED's on ESC. Running 4s, RX8 limits at 3000kv, 250kv enough to cause problem.
