Which charger? Help please
#16
My cheapo charger just crapped out...so I'm looking for advice as well. Found this on amain.com and have seen it mentioned on some forums. Thoughts? I have a couple 2s/25c/4200 lipos and will be picking up a couple more and possibly a 3s in the future so I'd like to buy one and be done. This looks to have some flexibility?

Spend a little more and at least you'll have the power to charge quicker

I have a thunderpower 610C and while I like it only does 80W. If i did it over again (and might soon), i'd get the Turnigy Reaktor which can charge up to 300W / 20A and is only $65:

Not sure what flexibility you're referring to...its a 50W charger. Around 4A max charge on a 3S, would take more than an hour for a 5000mAh lipo.

If that charger requires a power supply it would need something like this? I would thinks the ps would need to be as big as the charger itself?? I know nothing about these type chargers. Was hoping to keep it as 1 unit and under $100. Thoughts?? Thank you!!

Hi Fizzy
I typed up the previous reply, went to do something else, then posted it after you posted the one at 10.28AM (my time). Good luck with the Imax charger, a lot of people use it and it should be good for charging 4s at 5 amps if you need to I think. If you need any more help just post on this thread again and I will try my best to answer

This is incorrect. Charging a 4S pack at 5 amps to full voltage requires 84 Watts of charger power. The B6 is listed as a 50 Watt maximum charger.
4.2V/cell x 4 cells x 5 Amps = 84 Watts.
This is a very common question, members wondering why a 50W charger won't do more than about 3 Amps on a 4S pack.

If you want to keep it around $100 (and really, $50 is too cheap) I would recommend this package.

and if you want it to be "flexible"

Just over $100 and shipping.....and when you want to upgrade the charger, the PSU should carry over to the next one.

So will this charger charge a 4s at all even if it's slowly or it won't charge 4s at all? At this point it's not a real big deal if it doesn't as I am not running any 4s batteries for the time being but if I do happen to use them in future will I need to update charger?
Thanks

This is another cheap one you might take a chance with.

Thanks for all the input. I ended up with the Traxxas because the hobby shop was willing to work with me on the price(more than fair) AND they warrantied the cheapo one that came in the package. So I came out with 2 chargers at less $$ than the link I posted. I have fired up the new one and it seems to work well...easy set-up(for a rookie) and pretty fast charge time. Life's good for now....off to bashing!!
