Oh. I'm kinda curious how his setup will differ from the norm since he likes to drive "strapped" compared to the super smooth people like Hara.

can anyone tell me whats a good pinion to start with using the hobbywing 2200kv motor?

I would start with a 16, but keep a 17 handy. Just run for a few minutes and check the temp on the motor. Keep it under 180 degrees and everything is fine.

I have not used the hobbywing 2200kv motor, but I am using the Castle 2200kv motor that comes with the Sidewinder 1/8 set up (the same motor that comes with the Mamba Monster setup).

Personally, I have found that 2200kv is too much, and I have trouble keeping temps under control. I plan to get my hand on a 1900kv as soon as I can. With the 2200kv I have gone with as small a pinion as possible. I started with 14T, then 13T, and even 12T (barely fits), but that is just me.

Consider starting small and working your way up, since you may have temp problems.

I use a SCT Pro with a 2200, I run a 17T no timing in the esc, and EPA at 85%. Seems to work well never gets hot. Just my findings in a EB. May be different in a ET im sure.

gearing range I think is the issue with the ET48 versus the EB48.

I like the feel of the Viper 1900kv motor in the vehicle, very torquey for a 1/8 buggy sized motor.

With the Castle 2200, my sweet spot on 4s is 14T and on 6s it is 12T-13T. Any higher than that and it seems like I get real heat problems... just ordered an infrared thermometer to be able to say with more precision.

Another thing is that I run on a pretty small track and don't need all that much top end anyway. In fact, on 6s with a 14T, my truggy was so fast that I needed a wide open sportsfield to get up to top speed it just felt out of control.

Also keep in mind that I am relatively new to this, so more experienced folks may want to chime in...
