Looking for some advice as to what my problem may be here. I just finished building my new kit and was getting to setting up the electronics (pulled from another car a while ago) and have been having issues with getting the servo to work.

Whenever I plug the servo into the receiver and try to use the system, nothing works. The motor doesn't spin. There is an initial sound from the servo but after that it does nothing. The light on the receiver remains lit.

I have tried swapping the esc and servo on the receiver but that changed nothing. I also rebound the receiver and re calibrated the esc with no effect. Note that when I have the servo unplugged and am only using the esc, everything seems to work fine.

Just wondering if any of you have seen a similar issue or have any thoughts as to what the problem may be. Is the servo dead?

Whenever you see "Savox" and "Spektrum" in the same sentence describing glitch problems, the automatic answer is try a glitch buster or in the adverse case, a ubec.

But to fully troubleshoot your system, you should try another servo and/or another radio/transmitter.

But a glitch buster is cheap, so you might try that for a starter.

Does the capacitor attached to the esc not serve that role? Or is that only to smooth out power delivery from battery to esc?

The second part is correct, a glitch buster capacitor is a different role, smoothing the BEC/control power. But I don't suspect that's the solution, at least not yet. The strength of the BEC is an important part of the equation and the Speed Passion GT is reasonably strong, should work at least for the most part.

It's possible the servo has a short, if you can try another servo, or this servo on another RC. Of course simple stuff first, triple check it is plugged in correctly, black/negative wire to the outside of the receiver, no obvious problems with the wire, servo isn't bound up due to being way out of alignment, etc. The light remaining lit is troubling though, usually they at least dim noticeably with these types of issues?

Once working it might need a glitch cap for high load conditions.

Picked up a glitch buster today from the local hobby shop, still have the same issues. Noticed the light on the receiver does dim a bit when trying to use the servo in the system. I also felt the bottom of the servo getting quite warm so I suspect like you said there is a short somewhere in the servo. Going to rip it apart and see whats up.

That should NOT be happening.

If you are getting these sort of issues there is probably very little you can do as when servos get hot from a short that tends to be the end of the servo, gears can be replaced but PCBs don't come as spares.
