Default Uneven Tire Ballooning

Without outing a specific manufacturer...I have an odd issue.

On my short course truck today at the races...I noticed that my new tires started ballooning uneven. Specifically, one tire has expanded more than the other and they are pretty new.

I run MoGrip tire sauce but of course I treat them at the same time.

Anyone have a theory why one tire would start to expand quicker than the other?

Tire gluing has a lot to do with the way tires react. If glue isn't all along the inner bead on all 4 tires then they would stretch different amounts, and baloon at different times and rates.

It could also be the car itself. Something causing friction could cause one axle to rotate slower than the others.

I ensure I glue the base of the tire bead to the rim for sure. Its just weird because the tire almost feels inflated even though there are vent holes in the rim. Now I didnt vent the tire on the tread. Could that make a difference?

I do not think glue has anything to do with Tires ballooning..

ITS called Centrifugal Force..will make a tire balloon
that tire is spinning faster than the rest ?

I did run into a slightly similar issue when I have new rims(wheels)
the hex on the new rims touched my wheels hubs I had to trim them down so they would not touch..

Or that tire has a different compound than the rest

I find my predominant outside rear always balloon's first, try left to righting them, To me i think whats happening to mine is the saucing softens and stretch's the rubber, and the outside tyre's insert cop's the most load and squish, combo of both exaggerates the issue

(Hoese37)--Only the rims are vented currently...

(ElectricMann)--I'll check for the wheel hubs are rubbing but I dont think the hubs pass the hex adapters. Its possible the hex adapters are rubbing but I think I would have shredded a bearing by now if that was happening.

(kiwi_Tim)--I have been running right and left tires...not swapping them from side to side. So its possible thats causing the one to balloon more than the other.

For racing at least drive tires generally should stay on the same side. Due to the way the tread wears.

Just to confirm, is the ballooning issue with left to right tires, or front to back?

Glue contacting different parts of the tire can lead to different parts of the tire flexing and stretching. If a tire has more flex and strech than another due to less glue in the bead, that tire can baloon and warp more than another, as there would be less glue holding it down, so more rubber allowed to stretch at the same speed. Try it, it's one of those things people don't often think of, but it actually happens, and is one reason why tires and wheels need to be glued all the same- control tire flex (keep it consistent between tires) and keep tire stretching consistent between tires

Centrifugal force plays a role, but wheels and tires seemingly similar should experience the same force, and therefore the same balloon. I was just giving a different opinions.

Could the tire in question have picked up some water? Maybe weigh each tire and see if one is heavier.

Then again, a vent hole in the tire would spin that water out pretty fast.

I try to rotate my tires across diagonally and then up or down the length of the vehicle. Keeps the tires wearing evenly, and let's every tire rotate into every spot.

Also to vent, I vent the tires on off-road, and not the wheels. Wheel vents just let debris in, but tire vents let it out.

Ballooning is on the rear drive tires. I DO NOT have vents cut in the tread of the tires only the wheels are vented on the inside. Using closed cell foam inserts. Its possible water got inside the tire but I'm pretty careful about not submerging them.

The tires are pretty new so its just odd that one ballooned so quickly. Only the second weekend I have used these tires.

I've heard both sides of keeping tires on the same side vs. rotating them. To be honest have never noticed a difference either way.

Anyways, wont drag this on. Was just wondering if anyone had ever had this happen.

Generally on a track I am going to use sauce I don't vent the tire. Some sauces will Definetly affect the inserts and shorten there life. But .... Generally the tracks your running sauce on don't require much more than a simple wipe down with rag to clean tires. It does sound like you have some water trapped in them though. Try cutting a small vent and see if you have any water escape when you spin them up. After that I would avoid washing tires without vent holes in the tread.
