Trinity D4 17.5

What is the ideal gap?

Usually between .5mm-.8mm depending on the motor, tolerences in the build, etc. This is why its best to get a inline watt meter so you can do some testing instead of just guessing.
Also I cant stress this enough. If you shim the rotor any closer then .5mm you run the risk of it making contact with the hall sensors. This will destroy the sensor board for sure.

I might have to try this in my onroad then. This D4 isnt faster then my R1 wurks motors in my B5m with the 12.3 rotor that it comes with and I dont want to spend another 40 on it for the 12.5. lol....

The purple rotor is 12.3mm and more suited for onroad. Im sure your R1 has a 12.5mm rotor in it which is why you feel it performs better. However I bet if you put the 12.5mm rotor in the D4 you will be very happy. This motor is a torque monster like the D3.5 was but runs way cooler. The difference bewteen 12.3mm and 12.5mm sounds very minuscule but its a huge difference in performance especially in offroad.

ill just run it in my Mi5

I hate to sound like a broken record but you guys are not comparing apples to apples here. All of the motors you are using for comparison use a 12.5mm rotor. From day 1 I have recomended using the 12.5mm rotor because of its performance advantage. Why do you think a 13mm rotor is not ROAR legal? Anyone who is familiar with the Trinity line of motors knows that they always offer a "Maxzilla" version of every motor and the D4 will be no different. This will include a 12.5mm ht rotor. I know from my testing that the D4 will be the fastest coolest running motor on the track.
