They have to use Spektrum, we all know that, it's a Horizon Hobby thing.

We don't know what tricks they are doing to get theirs to work, if they have issues.

And maybe the top end Spektrum pro versions are less prone to issues than the low-mid range models and recievers, which most Spektrum users are using anyway.

"top end" "pro version"...? As in the 3 and 4 R pros?

Are they better than the mid or lower grade Spektrum stuff, not sure, could be. I wouldn't know I don't buy mid grade radios regardless of brand. A radio is the highest dollar item most people own. It's the one place people shouldn't try and go 'cheap'

As far as TLR drivers having to run Spektrum radios, that's no secret but I doubt they fly home, walk in the office and say "I would have won XXX race but our radio just sucks"

Would I buy a 3E, 3C or 3S..No, do I have a huge number of very fast local drivers (some driving for TLR) running the 3R Pro and new 4R Pro, Yes.

I believe that the Spektrum radios are very sensitive to the electrics in the car, especially servos, wiring, esc's etc.

I had a Losi 8ight-T 2.0 RTR that came with a DX3S and everything was working OK.

I converted it to electric with a Savox servo and a Mamba Monster esc/motor combo. From the first test drive, I had very short range, glitches etc.

I ended up using a Traxxas radio that worked flawlessly. For some reason I then bought a Spektrum DX3C as a replacement and immediately had all kinds of glitch problems.

I transferred the DX3C to another buggy with different electronics and had glitches there also.

I, in the end, bought a Sanwa and all troubles were gone.

So, I believe that Spektrum radios are very sensitive especially in electric cars.

Some run a nitro and are maybe not so proned for problems, others run electric cars and by chance have electrics that are "compatible" and don't "mess up" the Spektrum radio.

Maybe the TLR drivers have found a combination of electronics that works well with their Spektrums.

I'm curious, what do you all call a glitch these days?

In my case it was very short range, total loss of signal at very short distance, and signal "fall outs". For example, going full throttle, then suddenly, very briefly, no thottle, as if I had returned the trigger to neutral, then full throttle again.

I would call that a brown-out. I have dealt with it and I ultimately found it was an issue between my Novak ESC's BEC and the Savox servo. The BEC was 3A max and the servo could pull 5A when stalled or shocked. Eventually that would shut down my ESC/receiver for a second, just like you described. On the surface it looks like a radio problem.

I had posted about it last summer and all the "spektrum haters" ("savox haters", too) came out of the woodwork telling me do ditch my stuff and get another brand. If I had, I would have spent a bunch of money and not had a solution. Switching my ESC to one with a 5A BEC solved the problem.

The NIZN batteries are available from ebay and hobby king. If Spektrum had added an extra battery to the battery tray, they wouldn't be having these problems. The best bet is to modify it to accept the Life 6.6 volt batteries.

Well, I ran a Castle 10amp external BEC to feed a Savox servo, and still had problems with the Spektrum, so in my case I don't view it as brown outs.

I think I have one of the secret "glitchfree" DX3R Pro radios. I haven't had one single issue with mine. No range issues, brown outs, steering glitches or any other radio issues. I do run Spektrum servos in all my cars, Tekin ESC's and motors, no caps or any other bandaids.
There seems to be a lot of haters, but I haven't had an issue.

Your not the only one. I also have a secret "glitchfree" DX3R Pro radio. When you buy one at the hobby shop you have to tell the person behind the counter that your not a hater and they will go in back and get one of the secret Radios I really like mine

Ahh so that's the trick? Poor quality control so some are good and some are bad

Actually the trick is getting you to think that out of the 1000's of Spektrums sold worldwide, the 20 or 30 posts you read on here telling of a problem with their radio system makes you think there is a quality control problem.

And never mind the fact that some didn't mention in their post that ie: the Tx was dropped a few times, water somehow got into it, the batteries were at a lower voltage or worse yet, re-chargeables or they decided to shorten the antenna by snipping it. Believe me, I've seen all of the above.

Yea, I had a DX3R for years with no issues either....other than the dreaded Castle/Savox issue which a $5 capacitor fixed that. Sold it recently to a RC buddy of mine and ordered a DX4R Pro which has been awesome so far.

But then again guys, we're not "real" racers.

So Spektrum users are more prone to drop, water, clip their tx, use bad batteries etc.?
