Is spectrum the way to go?
Hi all,
So once again all my radios tend to mess up on me.. I have a HPI Savage x4.9 or 6. what ever it is anyway i plan to run sr200 receiver with spectrum dx3s remote will this be a good set up? I then plan to put the sr300 receiver on my new ERBE that is coming in the mail. I paid $125 for the DX3S with the sr200 and sr300 receiver was that a good buy? I know this one is only for 3 channel which I plan to run my savage , erevo and for my slash 4x4 when I do get it on the road. My brother just called me and I purchased the Spectrum DX2L for $80 brand new , last night my jato 3.3 was acting up not going far so I just purchased this DX2L how is it? Are these two good radios / were they worth the price? I've always heard when it comes to radios don't be cheap did I take the right route? |
I would never pick a Spektrum system, sorry.
Have had several Spektrums, that all glitched and had range problems. I now use Futaba and Sanwa (Airtronics). Never Spektrum for me. |
Too many horror stories on Spektrum. Fassst all the way!!!
|
Personally, I have been racing for over 15 years now, I bought the JR R1 when it first came. From there I went to Spektrum, and I don't ever seeing me owning anything but. I have tried the Futaba 4PLS, and to me it feel cheap. The grips feel like something you would get in a better RTR radio. The Wheel just never has enough spring tension, no matter how tight you adjust. I just don't like them. I personally have never had any range issues or glitching with my DX3R Pro. I even run the cheap orange receivers, still no issues.
But this is just my opinion. |
I have the Dx3s and its been great for 4 years , all though I do run Savox servos so I have a stack of power caps for spares . If I had to replace my dx3s Iwould go to sawana . I have ran mine with Sr300 Rxs and alot of differant Esc motor combos ,so far I only have to run a glitch buster in Etruggy and 4wd Sct .
|
I ran Spektrum in module based systems and then again with the DX3R. Myself, I will never do that again. I started running Futaba 7 years ago, and then I just recently picked up anAirtronics M12. I'm not decided on it between my 4PKS, but I do like them both.
What highster said about the 4PL is exactly what what I feel about the Spektrum radios as well. That being said, it all comes down to personal preference. |
Had spektrum from many years, recently switched to airtronics. Much better quality radio.
|
You'll be better off with almost anything else. I've had Spektrum in the past as well as some of my buddies and we've all had far too many issues with it. We've now ditched it and moved over to either futaba or sanwa/Airtronics and all wish wed done so years ago!!
|
I run spektrum because I started off with RTR's and they had the basic spektrum
Id say hold the controller before you make the decision. I have tried futaba and sanwa and just wanst happy with how they were in my hand. I havnt had any issues with mine but I know i don't like how others feel. |
The radio is the single most important investment you can make in this hobby. Buy one good radio once. Thats it. My choice, Airtronics Mt4. Get a good radio, don't cheap out. No spektrum.
|
Airtronics MT4 on sale at Amain for $199, comes with a telemetry receiver. Can't beat this radio for the price. Extra receivers (non telemetry) are $49. Best bang for your buck.
http://www.amain.com/product_info.ph...annel-Receiver Direct answer to your question, I'd never buy a Spektrum radio. Most people I've seen having glitching problems at my track are using Spektrum radios. |
Its like everything, everyone has there own opinion. I think you will be satisfied with your purchases. Prices seem fairly reasonable to me. Are they the best, maybe or maybe not, but they are able to get the job done and keep your trucks in control, have all the features that you want, then that's good enough in my book.
I have had spektrum most of my rc career since i bought my first high grade radio, and have had no issues. if you were asking and then going to buy, i woudl suggest putting them all in yoru hand and seeing how it feels to you. Everything pretty much has the same feature wise, so its all about feel. Since you already bought these radios, I think they will get the job done for you. good luck. |
If your radio is Orange(DSM2) grade, then you can use the orange(Blue) rx's, which solve a lot of the glitching problems, and can be had really cheap. I believe the glitching problem may be caused by not using 1.5 volt batteries. If you use nimh batteries at 1.2 volts, it may cause issues.

Why would you buy two separate Spektrum radios?
|
No offence, but i wouldn't touch spektrum with a 10ft pole. I've seen so many guys cars glitch on the track with spektrum. Get futaba, sanwa/aitronics or ko propo. Honestly i'd buy a flysky from hobbyking before i'd buy spektrum.
