I'd like you to go to a new model and try using the steering channel as a test. Calibrate the esc on the steering channel and see if this still occurs.

Put the fan on the esc. If you're on low bite you're going to have a lot of tire spin which can get the esc warm. 125' isn't that big of a track so try dropping down a pinion.

Thanks Randy, yes a lot of wheel spin so I'll decrease CL also. The reason I didn't have fan is I thought I read on this thread no need for fan on 1/8 scale, but I'll put it on

In a lot of conditions that's very true. However with a lot of wheel spin comes a lot of amp draw and heat from it. Putting the fan on will prevent any thought of thermalling the unit.

Default Hot wire

Anybody know if you can use the old hotwire on the gen 2?
Sent a pm to Randy but looking to get it set tonight.
Thanks

Yes.
The only difference between gen 1 & 2 hotwires is you don't need a OTG cable to use the phone app with the gen 2 hotwire.

Ok thanks...
What will happen if I load the gen 2 software and then try and program my gen 1's?

It has been one download for all esc's since I've been running Tekin.
This should do every contoler and when you hook it up, the software just knows whats connected.
http://www.teamtekin.com/hotwire.html

But now I see that they don't list gen1 on that page, just the new esc's and randy linked to a link when he was taking about gen1 compatibility with the app.

So are there now two places to go to for software? I wouldn't think so. I will look for the link.

It loks like the 223 software is still the latest firmware that you can go to. And there may not be any revisions. But they don't talk about gen1 at all on the hotwire page or what version you are getting unless you have a gen2... then you get 250.

But I gotta assume you click download on the hotwire page and it will update the newest stuff no may matter what newer ESC you have.

Here's where tlrandy linked for gen1

Thanks bud... I've just had issues in the past where I downloaded the newer software and it didn't take on the esc. I had to go to an older version and then update two or three more times before it took. I just don't want to purchase another hotwire when I have two already...

Ok looks like 250 version will still recognize the old 223 version and should work the same... Sweet!!

Unless anybody knows better, it appears that my Motorola Razr Maxx is not compatible with OTG. It's running version 4.1.2, which is supposed to be compatible, but after a week of struggle I can't get it to connect. An app I downloaded told me that my phone is OTG capable, but it still doesn't work.

Then I connected hotwire to my work device, a Galaxy note 3, and it connected to my ESC instantly.

I was going to say some horrible thing about Tekin for such a poor explanation of this system. They say it should just work?? I went looking for an OTG, and neither Best Buy nor the Verizon store knew what I was talking about. They're so cute when they're confused....

But regardless, they should do a better job explaining what OTG is and give more detailed device compatibility. As it is, they don't really provides specs for anything they sell, but that is another issue altogether. If they made a test app to determine if your phone will work before you buy the ESC? That'd be great....

Just thinking out-loud, I assume that it would take more than a software update. But it would be nice to log the load put on the BEC as well as everything else.

I think the app is still in beta, so kind of hard to hold it against them. I didn't think any of their marketing material is saying it will work with android/ios yet.

As a developer myself, I can tell you that there are TONS of different kinds of android devices with different capabilities and different carrier crapware installed. There is no way any company can test on all devices even more so a company whose main focus is on hardware not software.

The hole point of a beta is to get feedback from users and to find those bugs that only popup in the field.
