cool. Maybe contact the guy you bought it from to get a feel for what oils he put in there.
If you can't get that info from them, i would say give the latest setup guide a look that best mirrors your conditions and piston configuration and go with that oil recommended.
For me I used the RC Shox dual stage pistons and really loved the performance of them from carpet to rough outdoor loose conditions.

so i ended up just ordering some 35/32.5wt and some green slim. not sure what pistons ill go with probably the mid sized ones. i hope it doesn't feel horrible. ill know sometime mid next week.
the Rxshox dual pistons seem pretty sick, i think ill probably pick those up in a couple months when i start driving out side with it. id also like a ball diff too. but kinda low on funds at the moment.
Back to the stock shocks, so should i have gotten thicker oil? or just use smaller hole pistons. whats going to get better results? I guess what im trying to say whats the proper way to do this.

What size batteries is everyone using. I bought my truck used and it came with two Gensace saddle packs 25c 4800mah and during my 7 min main i ran out of juice. It was at the sixth minute power started to drastically drop. It's running a Tekin 5.5 and a mamba max pro sct esc. Perhaps the batteries are dying?? They gave unknown runs through them and seem slightly weathered.
Just for comparison I run my truck at 2608.2g (5.75lbs) with an RX8 and Pro4-4600. Using either my Reedy 4000 shorties or HVR 4000 shorties I have no issues running our 8 minute mains with extra laps before and after. The batteries typically take under 3200mA on recharge. Our track is not all that big, perhaps 80x60 now and is loose. When I practice I tend to go to 11 minutes before lipo cutoff.

Seems like you should not have any problems making 7 minutes. Could be the batteries ... maybe try to borrow one from a friend to see if that is the issue. How is the drivetrain? Have you gone through it to make sure there is no excessive drag? Seen a tight belt cause run-time issues before. How is the motor temp at the end of the run?

It is a used truck. I ran a new pack through it and was getting 9min max running figure 8s in my cul de sac. I'm already gonna tear it down and clean or replace all bearings. I've gotten some refresh plastics and will convert back to stick pack as i own high density stick packs.
Good luck!
Ok, here is my SC10 4X4 to 1/8 buggy conversion. The wing mount, wing, front and rear body mounts and wheels are all just cheap rtr items I found on ebay. The wheel adapters are integy t-maxx 17mm adapters with 12mm offset. Right now I just have regular 4mm nuts holding them on but I am getting the Slash 4x4 17mm adapter nuts to hold on the adapters latter. I needed some support for the sides of the body so I just used a heat gun and heated up the SC side bumpers and bent them to fit under the body. The front bumper is just the SC10 4X4 front skid plate that I heated up with the heat gun and folded it around the front of the car and then cut off the extra, drilled some holes to fit in the current bumper holes then screwed the top down. I guess the rest is pretty self explanatory so I will just let the pictures do the talking. The reason I made this is because we have a med/small track and the SC 4x4 trucks were getting better laps than the 1/8 buggys. My guess is that it is do to the weight. I haven't weighed this but just by holding this and my RC8 this is significantly lighter. I know it still needs the belt side guards, I picked this up as a cheap used parts truck so it still needs a few things here and there but I thought I would post the progress so far and see if anyone has any input before some track testing.

Thanks Cain. Hopefully I will be able to give it some track practice this next week. I ran it around my house and down the street. Its plenty fast and has lots of torque with the HPI Castle 5900KV 4 pole motor.

do most of you replace worn out clicker gears or glue them together? I like running in locked 4x4 but last night my clicker ceased to function correctly and I lost power to the front transmission. I decided to glue the clicker to the pulley and it resolved the issue for now. Is there a solid gear made rather than having to use a glued one? what does everyone else do.

Just got the new v3 pistons from rcshox. Any idea on a starter oil weight for a blown out outdoor 1/8 track? I've got the exotek chassis and cain's setup at the moment ( the only thing I didn't have that was on his sheet was the pistons) Thanks!

For the front I use any where from 15000 to 7000. I really like ten in the front.
for rear I use 7 to 3.
So if I got 10 in the front I use the 5 in the read. If I got 15 in front I use 7 in the rear. Is the back end does not seem to grab just go up slowly in the rear diff. With you having the exo chassie I would think maybe you would like 15 front 10 or 7 rear.
Depending on your springs, i would start with 250R/300F
