Questions?? ESC green light off when servo connected?

This issue is for a Kyosho Lazer 5 RTR that was running.

If I connect the ESC to channel 2, and the servo to channel 1, the light on the ESC never comes on when I power up the transmitter and car, and nothing works.

If I connect the ESC to channel 2, and the servo not connected, the light on the ESC is green and the throttle/power works.

I bought a spare reciever and servo that I've tried, and get the same result. I'm assuming this isn't some type of configuration issues. So the only two things left as possible issues ar ethe ESC or the transmitter. Is there a way to tell why I get no response with the servo connected?

Servo: Savox 1258G
ESC: Perfex KA-15L
Transmitter\Reciever: Perfex KT-6\KR-6
Bettery: Orion 3300 NiMH

Thx.

I had the same issue with my sons kyosho rtr sct, for me it was the servo that shorted the receiver that in turn took out the esc. Ended up just upgrading everything and have never had an issue again. I've learned over the years the rtr electronics are pretty much worthless

Thanks for the reply VentureDC. Something in the servo was my first guess. That's why I bought a second servo, but had same results. Then I tried a new reciever, same result. Not sure if it could be the ESC or transmitter. It work's when the servo is not connected. Just seems weird!?

What model was the second servo you tried? I don't think the Perfex models have very powerful BECs, it's possible the Savox servo is simply overloading it and causing it to shutdown.

The second servo was the same type, a Savox 1258. Would it be worth trying a different ESC? If yes, what would be compatable with my components below, that would provide more power?

Thanks.

Servo: Savox 1258G
ESC: Perfex KA-15L
Transmitter\Reciever: Perfex KT-6\KR-6
Bettery: Orion 3300 NiMH

Yes try a different esc or less powerful servo, the 1258 is insanely power thirsty

Another possibility is an external BEC. If you have a receiver battery that could be used for trouble shooting, see if a different power source can make the servo work.

My moneys on the Savox servo....install a capacitor into the receiver and I'm betting that will solve your problems.

So I searched 'capacitor' on amainhobbies. Reading the Novak Glitch Buster, it states it you simply connect it to an open channel on the reciever. I have one open BATT channel. Is it really that simple to install? Is this Novak Glitch Buster a good one? $10.99 seems like a worth while thing to rty.

Something like one of these. They plug into any open port in the receiver, and help hold the voltage up against quick short term power draw from the servos.

Spektrum Voltage Protector

Glitch Buster Capacitor

But, since your's won't even work to begin with, don't expect it to help, for your situation, which is apparently more severe than what most are experienced with. You appear to need a lot more power, not just some short term help that a cap offers.

Dave H,

So you think I need more power. I didn't follow your comment "If you have a receiver battery that could be used for trouble shooting, see if a different power source can make the servo work". Is the BATT channel something I can connect another power source to? If yes, is having two power sources something typical, or just for trouble shooting? Sorry for all the dumb questions. Thx again.

Oops, forgot that. Correct don't want 2 power sources fighting each other, not good, one will lose. Normal drill to to pull and insulate the red wire coming from the ESC (or use a short servo extension, mod it to keep the ESC lead unmolested). Yes to receiver battery in BATT slot (although it probably will work in any slot).

Course you can just leave the ESC disconnected, start with just seeing if you can get the servo going.

Actually I dont think even a capacitor will help....the servo specs out for 6V and a brushed ESC with an old nihm battery just doesnt really match up to the needs of a Savox servo. IMO.
