The latest hot thing to do if your tractk conditions warrant is to go with an ultra lite setup with a shorty lipo up front.

Shark would be a good person to look at his mods to see what is all involved.

9Turn might. give him a jingle.
Right on thanks man.
Who's the racist guy? I missed the post... Is he a racer?

shoot me your email address, i have a setup you may want to give a try.

I would also recommend getting the M2C rear toe in block. that extra bit of toe it can add works wonders.

Finished my rebuild and mods, ready to go racing. Tested the 4 gear tranny and it is looking good.

For those of you that missed my previous post this is what I have done to my SC10 4x4.
  • Ultra lite design using a shorty pack up front for better balance, RTR 5lbs 3oz.
  • 4 gear rear tranny to reverse motor rotation to enhance on power traction and altitude control. Motor rotation same direction as rear wheel.
  • Servo sitting flat on chassis.
  • cDiff, a true center differential (no slippage).
  • Added an extra bearing to the rear topshaft (three total) for more durability and to reduce flex.
  • Exotek rear carrier and 8mm mod (have since gone to 4mm)
  • short rear camber links
  • M2C rear toe block to run additional rear toe.

4 gear mod.

Servo mounted directly on chassis.

RCShox cDiff

Running shorty pack up front.

Extra bearing on topshaft.

FQ06, were you able to make it out to SCVRC? I didn't see anyone with a Tekno (Except me). I ran my SC10 4x4 4 gear and the performance improvement was just what I was looking for. I had real altitude control now and I cut laps faster than my Tekno SCT410 (before the 4 gear mod, my Tekno always turned laps .5 to 1 sec faster). I believe the 4 gear mod is what will push the SC10 4x4 right back up there with the Tekno/Losi's. Right now my SC10 4x4 is lighter, more nimble and accelerates/brakes better than my Tekno. The only place it was lacking was altitude control, there were certain jumps I couldn't stay on the throttle as long as with my Tekno because the nose would come up and no amount of braking could get it back down. Now a slight tap on the brakes levels it right out.

Now If the 4 gear mod could be mass produced...

N8B, actually the mod is pretty simple. I don't have the time, means or machinery to do it, but a machinist could easily make the spindle on a CNC lathe, the Traxxas 32p clutch bell is readily available and the stock motor plate only requires two new holes (actually only one for the new motor mount, as the spindle uses the upper motor mount hole and only needs a bevel so the screw fits flush). I want to do a lot more testing, but the mod looks very promising.

Thats exactly the findings i had with this mod a year ago, i just couldnt get through a pack without destroying the idler!

For a second I thought about not posting my 4 gear results because I wanted to keep my advantage a secret. But then I came to my senses and wanted to spread the word, because this is something that will benefit racers soldiering on with their SC10 4x4's and what's good for one truck is good for the entire RC community. The SC10 4x4 has one big advantage the Tekno and Losi's can't match, which is it's light weight. Some say this is a disadvantage, and under certain conditions maybe so. But for me on a indoor track it is the perfect truck, and with the center diff and motor rotation issues fixed it is still very competitive.

Wow that up front battery is great!!!! I don't have shorty batteries but man I'd love to attempt that.

I've had mine for a couple months. I bought it off of a friend who installed the center diff and chassis brace. Only problem I have had, of course, was the servo. I stripped a gear and needed to pull it out. It's not as bad as I thought it would be but still.

I love the way the truck drives and handles. I just wish it had more room for working on it. My friend's Losi 2.0 is a dream it looks like to work on.

for the whole servo thing, I have wondered if you could make a chassis front plate so you can get to the servo quickly, just unscrew and go. would need to work a system to better setup the servo to the chassis I recon without the alignment tool.

A .5 to 1 second off 18 second lap times is a huge cut!
