Default Balance plug lead question

I have an Onyx 245 charger, and I run a 22 and a 22SCT, both with Venom shorty packs. I've eliminated a connector in the battery to ESC harness and have run the pos/neg wires from the ESC directly to bullet connectors on the batteries. To charge, I simply use alligator clips on the pos/neg for each battery, and insert the balancing lead (mini-bullet). However, I need to keep the charger close to the car/truck due to short wires. So, here's what I wan to do: run an 18" pos/neg 12 gauge charge leads from the charger to the battery. Then, attached the balance board to the charger with double sided tape, then run the pos/neg balance leads from the balance board to the charge leads at the charger, rather than the battery. Finally, I'll have a long balance lead from the balance board to the battery.

Has anyone tried this? Any issues to be aware of?

Cliff notes: I'm moving the connection of the pos/neg balance leads from the battery side of the main charger leads to the charger side, then running a long balance lead along with the main charge leads.

Thanks for any input you can offer.

I have not done this personally. But I see no reason why it would not work. You would have to either splice directly into the wire, or attach the +,- at the connector solder joints that plugs into the charger. Only downside is it may not look as clean.

All my balance connections are on the leads that plug into my charger and then I run 30" wires to my battery, works great. Makes for a clean setup having the balance board and all that stuff up near the charger and just running the 3wires out to the battery.

Great, that's what I was hoping to hear. Can you share a pic, if you don't mind?

Edit. Here is the pic, had to text it to my work phone so it's way smaller then original, hopefully it clear enough.

Get rid of balance boards altogether. The left plugs directly into the charger. The right goes to the battery.

If they don't sell those, I am sure making one is simple!

There's a trick you can use. The only 3 wires that need to be long are the main + and - leads and the balance lead. Instead of connecting the balance +/- leads to the battery end of the cable i connect them to the charger end. Saves on a couple long 24g wires and makes it look more clean.
