IS GETTING RID OF THAT GAP SOMETHING YOU RECOMMEND DOING?

It really depends on the surface you run on....I *normally* don't have any problems with running with the air gap at SoCal, but outdoors sometimes the cars does wierd stuff.

My suggestion is if can, mount some up with the gap and some without. You will notice a difference...and, although slightly expensive, it'll give you an idea whether it is worth it in a racing situation to continue taping or not.

yeah i wish i had the $ to try two sets of the same compound. i do have two sets of wheels to put together. 1- 139g2 and 1-138g. was planning on using the 139 on carpet and 138 on asphalt and socal. guess i'll tape the 139 and leave the 138 alone. then try both out on the carpet.

Let's bridge this gap by saying that gap or no gap we will prevail, we will make the A main and by God's grace we will be victorious.

i prefer to have a small gap between the tires and the insert. the car is more forgiving when i doing this.

The gap isn't something you NEED to get rid of...but it does help in certain situations.

i should be visiting socal in a few weeks. i'd like to get a little more used to the car first. what are the race days and times i should get there?

They race Tuesdays and Saturdays. Tuesdays they start racing at 7:00pm. You can get there whenever...there's usually pit space. Saturday is another story. The track opens at 10:00am, and racing starts at 6:00pm, but, since it's Saturday, BOTH tracks are open, which usually makes pit space VERY limited later in the day. I would suggest getting their early.

I think that the rally kit is cool but i dont know how it will perform.

I have a rally kit and it's cool, but has some 'flaws'.

First: lack of a steering rack cover.
Second: Lack of a gear cover.

The rest of the kit is awesome I keep some time running with the rally car. And the best of all, since is a car for fun, you may use your worn motors and those batteries who lost punch a have a good time driving a rally machine.

I was one of the two that created the rally car. Just bored one day at track, spare car in hand, and watching the HPI rally cars run around.

The car is pretty good, with the right setup! Jumps VERY flat, has good traction, yet will still allow you to drift through the sweepers.

Corse-R. The steering rack cover. If yer creative, you can take a VERY thin piece of lexan and make one. Associated formed a couple for us to test, and they worked REALLY good, but, decided against it. Something else in the works. The gear cover. Again, lexan to the rescue. Cut a piece that is slightly larger than the opening on the bottom of the car. You will also need 2 2mm shims. Shoo Goo the lexan to the bottom of the car, over the opening for the gear. Take your 2 2mm shims and wedge them under the lexan, lifting the lexan up and forming a little scoop. MAKE SURE THE SCOOP IS FACING TOWARDS THE BACK OF THE CAR!!!! What you are forming is a small cover. The shims are there to allow and debris that enters the car from the top to be expelled out the bottom. We tried this on our cars and it worked great!!!!! You will lose 2mm of ground clearance near the back of the car, but it's not that big a deal...
