My son is now at the age that he is going to start racing with me. I race 2-3 classes a night and will now have him racing with me.

I currently have an onxy 245 and have been wanting to upgrade anyway. I'd like a charger that will charge 4 batteries at one time. Currently, i run all 1/10 scale but will eventually get into 1/8 scale as well.

I don't need the top of the line but i don't want junk either.

What are your thoughts on the hitec ac/dc plus x4? I'm open to other options too.

Ive SEEN too many Hitec X4s just randomly quit working. Either the screen just quits or gives "Voltage Error" message. You could look into something like the 400X2. Its only a dual charger, but you could double the charge rate and get the packs done in half the time.

These guys put together some combo units that have nice portability.

There are other options that are as good or better and less expensive. The ichargers are excellent, but the power supplies can be found cheaper if you look around.

If you want to get into electric 1/8 scale, consider getting something with more than the common 50 watts per channel. While a 50 watt charger like the ac/dc X4 will charge a 4S, it will be slow, around 3 amps. Suggest at least 80-100 watts or so.

having the dual port is nice. the other night i was charging my transmitter battery on one port while doing the starter box on a 2nd port. then i hooked up 2 electric car batteries on the ports and got them done in about 20 minutes

Yikes! Twin inputs to overcome the AC outlet limitation. This I can charge all my batteries faster that you thing is getting out of control.

Not real impressed by the looks of that PL8x2 unit. Looks like to me they just shoved two PL8's in one case. Price though is a good bit cheaper than buying two PL8's so that is a plus. As far as form goes for a duo charger, the iCharger 4010Duo is a lot more polished. No doubt though the software interface of the PL8x2 will be much better though.

For a car guy, the best bang for the buck charger is the Hitec 400x2 charger. After tower coupon it can be had in the $160 range.

I may go the hitec route mostly to save money from buying a power supply if i were to purchase a dc charger... im just lost in searching all the pros and cons of so many chargers... haha

if you want the best at no cost go with revoelectrix (or howerver you spell it) does everything you could want from a charger

but do think about the 1/8 scale. you just might hate everything charge related if you have to go back to the drawing board to include a charger after the matter to get the 1/8 going and do other classes as well
