Default Lipo charging question

What would happen if I charged my battery at 7 amps. When my battery has a 1c charge rate. It's a 3s 50c 5000mah. I know I'm suppose to be charging at 5amps. Just want to know what it would do to the battery? Thanks

It would probably be ok. It will just get it fully charged quicker.

Different batteries have different tolerances for high charge rates. 1C is generally very conservative. I have batteries from Gens Ace, Value Hobby, and SMC, and all of them can be charged at 3 or 5C.

I routinely charge 6500 4S packs at 16-18A; the batteries don't even get warm.

i would stick to what the manufacturer recommends for the battery, they probably know best.

If it says 1C max then your battery will explode if you want to try it move your charger and battery outside and away from anything of value. Li-po fires can be pretty bad

+1 it'll charge faster and probably be ok, but reduce the lifespan of the pack.

This is very wrong information.

What's wrong with it.
Lipo fires are very violent.
If the mfg states a 1c then why would you not follow it?

The 2 amp difference from 1c (on your 5000 pack) to 7amp charge rate would not shave that much time off the charge time. Why not just follow the mfg and charge at 5amps?

When they go they go all at once..

Bottom line is:
  • charge in a safe bag
  • Never overcharge
  • Follow the mfg charge rate

Its wrong saying that it WILL explode. Yes 1C is a general safe charge limit. The reason 1C was introduced was back when Lipo tech was still very new. The packs werent as high in quality as they are now, and the chargers that did Lipo at the time were still cpable of very high charge rates.

I agree with u hoese37, the lipo will not burn charging at 7amps, it will cause to much IR and then might slightly puff if anything
