And unless you're already an excellent 2wd buggy driver and plan to race, an 8.5 is just too much motor in most cases.
Now, if you're going to bash (wouldn't advise that with a b.1) then have at it.
8.5 was a common motor at a very tight 50 x 50 track if that by me. NOT because people were looking for insane speed, but the torque so you could punch over the short jumps.
i could win the class using a 17.5 depending on how the track was setup. if flowing, could do using boost, etc. But, if not, not enough punch.
Now, that said, personally I think a 10.5 boosted on a lot of tracks is probably plenty.
As for 8.5 versus 7.5, I haven't seen or heard of anything going this kind of switch made the difference for them.

I use 17.5 atm and it's fine. However, if I step up to mod buggy next year I'll do a 10.5. Gear those motors right and save some headache and it takes away that "gorilla" attitude of "more power = more speed". All too much motor will do is cause you to try to make up time by going faster....... in which case will cause you motor trouble.
Ok so I'm not sure how much feedback it will get in this thread but I figured this didn't really belong in the B4.2 thread.
Anyone running the T4.1 chassis on their B4.1? I know FTW makes a body special for this application and I understand the point is for use on larger outdoor tracks...which is exactly where I run. What I'm considering doing is converting my RTR T4.1 to a buggy which really shouldn't take all that much work. I have spare front and rear arms, front and rear hexes, and front hex conversion already and I have shock towers in route as backups for the B4 so I could just put the old B4.1 towers on the T4.1. I upgraded the B4.1 to big bores so I have a set of FT Threaded V2 buggy shocks already, I think the only things I will really need to get at this point are a body, the rear axles and a turnbuckle set.
Basically I've been trying to sell the RTR T4.1 for a month now and have had zero interest so I figure I'm not really loosing anything by giving this a try. I'll wind up with a unique car and maybe it runs on the blown out outdoor track I run at.
Thoughts? Setups? Which motor plate would you go with (and is it aluminum?)?
