(turbo plugs are prone to developing black death, if the end of the wire where its welded to the outer housing goes black the plug is toast. It only needs to go black about 2mm in from the edge, if this happens the motor will run rich and never tune) In my instructions I tell users to scrap the plug after you break the engine in. Did you change the head clearance?? How much nitro?? You need to get the engine into the 250/260 range in F for temp. the performance difference between 210 and 250 is huge.
Hey Dennis, no worries about the slow reply, I'm sure you're busy.

I changed the head clearance and also the plug before resorting to the needle change. I ended up with just the copper shim running 16% nitro. I also did the pipe mods you suggested.

I know what you mean about the needle as I don't really know why it fixed it. It was as though the needle supplied just couldn't seat properly and close the fuel flow. I will endeavour to change the needle back to the original and see if it returns to it's previous behaviour of being seriously fueled up at wide open throttle. Or I'll just be smart and put the micrometer on both needles and see if there is a difference. If there is, I'll get you to PM me an address and I'll send the needle back to ya.

If I saw that sort of performance at 210F, I can't wait to set it to run 250F if there is a huge performance difference

Cheers,

Mike.

yea let me know what goes. if the problem follows the needle I surely want to see it.

You are running the short header on your car? The head clerance , yes it needs to be around .014 total head clearance on 16%. And yess the high speed needle will be quite deep in the bore when the mixture is right.

It also could still be the motor needed to free up more but usually that creates excessive heat so thats unlikley.

How did it run compared to other engines? My friend says this engine will blow the doors off an NS12 and Sirio Evo 2 5 port.

Default Needles

Dennis,

The Richey needle measured 18.6mm in total length and the STS needle was 18.0mm total length.

I spoke with the distributor for these engines over here and he hasn't had any other complaints from others having the same issue I had. Maybe it's just a one off.

I guess I'll just stick with the STS needle.

Zoom its got to be a fluke. If theres something you need or want me to do let me know. can replace the part no problem. I will certainly cover the needle assy and the shipping.
Cheers

Initial sales of the engine seem to be going well thanks for everyones support. The RD Richey Mongoose R3 turbo II package seems to be capable of running at the front right out of the box. We are very happy.

Zoom i have a problem like yours my needle when bottomed out does not seat properly and does not shut off the fuel but my engine run fine about 1/ 8 from bottomed out so i guess its ok and a little better then your

but i did check a nr carb and they do seat completely and shut off the fuel maybe i will try an ns carb and see if run better then it already does.

for all those who want to know motor runs great everywhere just a little lacking in top end compared to a nsr , but for $180.00 compered to $280 it well worth the small differance on top,
if not on a very large track this motor can compete with any of them, very good motor!!!
