Thanks for the responses guys, also no probs on the first response I got, I know the Emaxx is an odd choice but I love the stance of it and the way it drives, it's actually my preferred vehicle for bashing about the park etc as the other vehicles I don't drive much unless I'm at a race track, with exception to the SCX10 of course.

That and I am loving building it, it's just this one last piece that is causing so many problems. Once this is sorted out that should be my drivetrain finally sorted for 6S.

I will have a look through the available options posted in this thread on the weekend, tend to work long days through the week so I don't have a lot of time to get into to much right now but some of the options I have already checked.

Windrake: it's not the crown / pinion blowing, it's the spider gears.

The gears turn fine when the diff is assembled, no free play and no binding. Even after install they are fine. Yet when I start driving, within minutes they are toast. That's not jumping and shock loading them by holding down the throttle, no standing wheelies or anything like that, I'm quite mechanically sympathetic.

Is this diff considered a straight drop in?

Another option I considered is this one;

http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...htning-Stadium

But I read somewhere you needed the straight cut gears as the crown gear in spiral cut will not fit for whatever reason, they don't however seem to make them anymore.

Help is hugely appreciated.

My truck would be on its lid in a split second. 3908 chassis with setback arms, that's a lot of leverage on the rear and the diffs took it just fine!

I finally located some UE axles too. The emaxx is also one of my favorite veichles to run. I didn't even bother buying the rtr from traxxas, built it from parts.

The spiral-cut Lightning gears don't fit in the Hybrid bulkheads. Gotta use the bevel cut ones.

Your best bet might be to check eBay for a Hyper 7/8 diff pair, or original HB Lightning diffs. The Lightning Stadium has spiral gears.

The Ofna Spider diff is a torsen diff. I think the Maxx would blow that up. :P

Edit:

You could also build up a LST2 diff using the Hot Racing Aluminum Cup w/ Steel Outdrive Plate.

I don't know if there's any way to make a stronger diff at that point. Yikes.

Ofna does offer a torsen diff, but they also offer a diff with 4 spider gears (spider 6) and one with 6 spider gears (spider 8).

Here is the spider 8

Here is what is inside that spider 8

Here is the ofna torsen diff. I have no experience with these.

The emaxx is also one of my favorite bashers along with my slash 4X4.

Hell, 6 spider gears? Sign me up! Where can I retro-fit one of these into some savage bulkheads? Lol.

I would go for that, if it's a direct drop in. Well worth $155, IMO. That should be a one-time deal as well. With 6 spiders, and apparently Incredible Hulk inspired bevel gears, you should be good. All the options I have for the Savage is just replacing the diff gears with the ones from the HB Lightning. (I have, and there's a very slight difference between the stock BP gears and the HB gears. HB is thicker, and is hardened steel like the BP ones)

Can't find any Lightning straight cut bevel / pinion anywhere so it has to be out. The Losi LST2 might be an option but again the HR Racing link you provided has only one cup available, and I need two.

Couldn't find any more.

As for the Ofna diff, you mentioned the Hyper 7 / 8 diff, the one I linked from Amain earlier was from the 7/8/8.5, but you said it is a torsen diff and might not hold?

BlazerSS then linked to the same diff I posted and mentioned another form of torsen diff that was different again and mentioned the 8 spider as the same one I linked so again I am still confused.

My understanding is that the UE diffs are the 6 or 8 spider diff from Ofna. The 6 gear being the plastic cup, the 8 gear being this one;

http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...r-Differential

So yeh....still confused.....

There's a couple of different Ofna "Spider" diffs, that's kind of the problem.

The one you're linking is a Ofna Spider Torsen diff and isn't going to put up with 40-Series wheels.

This one, that BlazerSS Linked is an Ofna Spider-8 Diff. 8 spider gears, metal cup, extremely strong.

Hope that clears it up.

There's another mfg for LST aluminum cups, if you're still thinking about the LST diff.
